Management Innovation entries will be judged on the degree to which they:

  • Are innovative
  • Are replicable
  • Respond to a management challenge or opportunity
  • Achieve measurable improvements in agency operations
  • Provide benefits that outweigh costs
  • Demonstrate effective use of resources
  • Achieve strategic objectives

At Idaho Housing and Finance Association, embracing innovation is a core value. Facing a dynamic workforce landscape and growing organizational demands, we identified artificial intelligence (AI) as a strategic enabler to transform Human Resources operations. Through the deliberate integration of AI tools across recruitment, communication, and employee development, Idaho Housing has not only modernized service delivery but also elevated the human connection โ€” achieving measurable operations.

Illinois Housing Development Authority:
Wellness Program

To boost employee morale and health, IHDA developed and implemented a new wellness program. This initiative reflects a deep commitment to the health and well-being of all employees through a holistic focus on fitness, nutrition, mindfulness, and financial health.

MaineHousing:
MaineHousingโ€™s Internal Communications Plan โ€“ Facts & Snacks

"Facts & Snacks" focuses on improving the work experience for MaineHousing's 181 team members through increased interdepartmental understanding, relations, and collaboration. Part of the agency's Internal Communications initiative, these are one-hour, in-person, interactive learning sessions held during the workday. The on-the-clock presentations, which began in 2023, cover a variety of topics, adaptable based on interest, and the accompanying "snacks" component adds a fun and enticing flavor.

New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency:
The Honors Fellow Program: Identifying and Recruiting Talent

In 2023, NJHMFA created the Honors Fellow Program to recruit talented graduates interested in public service. This is a twelve-month, entry-level training cycle, during which, Honors Fellows are introduced to affordable housing development and financing in NJ as part of a rotation, which is geared towards individual interests and NJHMFAโ€™s future needs. Rotations position Honor Fellows to either work in multiple units within one division or to work in multiple divisions with related competencies.

Virginia Housing:
Building Future Leaders for Affordable Housing

The Fellows Program is a new two-year full-time salaried fellowship program equipping early-career individuals with leadership, analytical, & industry-specific skills needed to drive innovation for both our organization & our nonprofit affordable housing partners. This innovative human resource management initiative attracts a new generation of professionals to Virginia Housing & strengthens our operations while also providing benefits to nonprofit partners in our Housing Delivery Network.

Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority:
WHEDA Bucks Employee Recognition Program: How Peer-to-Peer Empowerment Elevates Culture

In response to one of the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authorityโ€™s (WHEDA) Strategic Priorities to โ€œPut People First,โ€ leadership worked to modernize a previous program that was popular amongst employees. By updating processes and utilizing existing technology, in the short time since the program was relaunched, WHEDA Bucks have significantly boosted employee engagement and morale.
