  • Are innovative
  • Respond to an important state need
  • Achieve intended results
  • Provide benefits that outweigh costs

Alaska Housing Finance Corporation:
Alaska Housing Finance Corporation Jumpstart Program

Jumpstart is the work-readiness and financial-literacy component of AHFCโ€™s Step program, which provides at-risk families with safe, quality, affordable public housing while concurrently helping them achieve financial independence. As a voluntary family self-sufficiency program, Jumpstart provides goal setting, education opportunities and financial incentives as well as community resources and support so families can attain economic independence for a better future.

Connecticut Housing Finance Authority:
CHFA (CT) Mobile Manufactured Home Refinancing Loan Program

Mobile manufactured homes (MMH) are an affordable option for low and moderate-income households. MMHs used to be considered personal property, ineligible for mortgage financing. Many were financed with โ€œchattel mortgagesโ€ at interest rates averaging 6.5%. CHFAโ€™s new MMH Refinancing Loan Program was developed to help current MMH owners improve their finances with lower interest rates, helping to ensure continued ownership of these affordable properties in a high cost state.

Kentucky Housing Corporation:
Providing Energy Assistance Information, Training in A Pandemic

Kentucky Housing Corporation (KHC) is home to the Residential Energy Efficiency (REE) Training Initiatives Center, which offers a multifaceted approach to energy efficiency education, including improving the health, comfort, safety and energy efficiency of Kentucky homes. In addition to educating energy consumers, offering certification trainings for professionals helps strengthen the stateโ€™s economy and helps developers and families get quality, certified work for home energy improvements.

Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development:
Partnerships for Responsive Revitalization

The Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development combined funding from diverse programs to support two complimentary redevelopment projects that provide housing and community services to multiple generations in the Town of Cecilton in Cecil County, Maryland. The projects and the process behind them exemplify the departmentโ€™s commitment to respond to local needs through strong partnerships and flexible financing as documented in a video to promote community development.

Masshousing:
MI Plusโ„ข COVID Response

Anticipating a higher demand for MassHousingโ€™s MI Plusโ„ข mortgage payment protection benefit during the pandemic, work across Agency business lines helped launch a new system to process claims. Efforts were made to remind borrowers about this unique benefit, eligibility requirements were expanded, and processes streamlined to provide timely access to MI Plusโ„ข services.

Minnesota Housing:
Manufactured Home Community Redevelopment Program

Minnesota Housingโ€™s Manufactured Home Community Redevelopment Program is a grant program to fund infrastructure improvements or acquisition of manufactured home parks to assist the needs for aging manufacture home communities around the state of Minnesota. Infrastructure improvements include replacement or repair of water and sewer systems, electrical upgrades, street repair, storm shelters, among other uses.

Nebraska Investment Finance Authority:
Forming First Nation Friendships

Native Americans face the harshest challenges of any persons living in Nebraska. NIFA has taken an innovative approach to creating relationships with our First Nations, with the goal of fostering more affordable housing opportunities for Native Americans. These efforts demonstrate that states of any size with limited resources and a small staff can provide opportunities to make a big impact on its underrepresented citizens.

Oregon Housing and Community Services:
The Call to Serve: Oregonโ€™s Housing Response to the 2020 Wildfires

Wildfires tore through Oregon Labor Day weekend 2020, leaving destruction and devastation in their path. Over 4,000 homes were destroyed, including over 1,700 manufactured homes in 19 Parks. With equity and racial justice embedded, contracting with culturally specific providers to expand access to relief resources, Oregon Housing Community Services acted by prioritizing housing development resources in wildfire affected areas, and augmenting programs to better serve wildfire survivors.

Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency:
Community Engagement in The Age of Social Distancing

The Housing Services Department of the PHFA is dedicated to advocacy, awareness of social barriers and to the education of service providers across the state. The Agencyโ€™s objective in this effort is to support all residents of Multifamily Housing in achieving an overall sense of wellbeing that includes a positive experience of emotional safety and security. The self-guided program โ€œCommunity Engagement in the Age of Social Distancing" brings the specific issue of social isolation to light.

Virginia Housing:
indieDwell Modular Housing and Economic Development Initiative

Virginia Housing has partnered with indieDwell, a Public Benefit Corporation and a Certified B Corporation with a mission to manufacture healthy, durable, energy efficient, sustainable modular housing specifically to solve the affordable housing crisis problem. This initiative is address the shortage of quality, energy efficient, affordable housing.
