Housing Investments Are Vital

As the economic impacts of COVID-19 began to be felt across North Carolina, renters and homeowners found themselves unable to pay their rent or mortgage. The ongoing affordable housing shortage exacerbated this impact, leaving few affordable options for those struggling. For the NC Housing Finance Agency, the housing impacts of the pandemic presented a unique opportunity to illustrate the importance of housing investments in telling our 2020 story. Enter "Housing Investments Are Vital".

2020 Annual Report: Housing First

This year, PHFA made the jump from producing a printed annual report to a fully web-based report. There had been resistance internally to this in the past, but we have won over the skeptics this year by demonstrating the numerous advantages of going digital. We know there are other HFAs that are hesitant to make this change. Our award proposal lays out the many pluses of taking one's annual report online and, by sharing our experience, hopefully we encourage others to follow our example.

Reinventing Annual Reporting in South Carolina

In 2020, SC Housing developed and executed on a new vision for its annual report and related documents. Data collection and drafting for all scheduled publications was consolidated and centralized under the Chief Research Officer, with communications staff reviewing and designing reports for publication. This improved the consistency of outward-facing information produced by the agency. Further, a reorganization of reports allowed for better tailoring of messages to key stakeholders.

FY20 Annual Report

Audiences today are busy, multitasking and have short attention spans ā€” but they still crave relevant content. Our goal was to provide our stakeholders with updates on the yearā€™s accomplishments, without making them work too hard to find the content they want. Our FY20 annual report was created to be interactive, visually engaging and informative. It used short videos, easy-to-skim stories and animated infographics ā€” all designed to tell the story of how our work is making a difference.
