Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development Announces Fiscal Year 2023 Application Round for State Revitalization Programs
The Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development today announced the Fiscal Year 2023 application round for six State Revitalization Programs will open on May 19, 2022. These programs offer funding to support local housing, community and economic development and other revitalization projects. They are part of the department’s commitment to helping the state’s local governments and nonprofit agencies achieve their community revitalization and economic development goals.

Honored with the agency’s prestigious Housing Pioneer Award were: Jane Downing, senior program officer, economic and community development, The Pittsburgh Foundation, Pittsburgh, Ira Goldstein, president of policy solutions, Reinvestment Fund, Philadelphia, and SEDA-COG Housing Development Corporation, Lewisburg, Union County.
MassHousing Provides $41.2 Million in Financing for New, 150-Unit Mixed-Income Housing Community for Families and Students in Sunderland
MassHousing has closed on $41.2 in affordable housing financing to Landmark Properties, Inc., for the newly constructed, 150-unit, North 116 Flats in Sunderland. Located three miles north of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and adjacent to a bus line that runs into downtown Amherst and UMass Amherst, North 116 Flats was developed under the state’s comprehensive permit law, Chapter 40B. North 116 Flats offers 38 family apartments affordable to households earning at or below 80 percent of the Area Median Income (AMI).

Continuum of Care Accepting RFPs for Youth Homelessness Assistance
North Dakota’s Homeless Continuum of Care (CoC) is accepting Request for Proposals for the Youth Homelessness Demonstration Program (YHDP). “Understanding the depth of youth homelessness is challenging in a rural state,” said Dave Flohr, North Dakota Housing Finance Agency (NDHFA) executive director. "Through the YHDP, we are committed to ending youth homelessness in North Dakota.”
Senators Leahy, Collins Introduce Legislation to Facilitate Use of Fiscal Recovery Funds with Housing Credit
On May 11, 2022, Senators Patrick Leahy (D-VT) and Susan Collins (R-ME) introduced the LIHTC Financing Enabling Long-term Investment in Neighborhood Excellence (LIFELINE) Act, which would allow state, local, territorial, and tribal governments to use Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds to make long-term loans to Housing Credit developments. The bill is companion legislation to the House version of the LIFELINE Act (H.R. 7078), introduced by Representatives Alma Adams (D-NC) and David Rouzer (R-NC) in March.
WHEDA Awards $23.3 Million in Federal and State Housing Tax Credits for 2022
Today the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development (WHEDA) announced the award of $23.3 million in federal and state housing tax credits that will advance greater housing access and opportunity in Wisconsin through the creation of over 1,400 housing units. South Dakota Housing Development Authority (SDHDA) is seeking applicants for the Emergency Solutions Grants Program. The Emergency Solutions Grants Program (ESG) is a federal block grant authorized by the McKinney Vento Homelessness Assistance Act and is funded by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development. The ESG program provides financing for short-term and medium-term rental assistance and services to stabilize and rapidly re-house individuals and households who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.

Rental Assistance Program to Close to New Applications
RIHousing announced today that the federally-funded RentReliefRI program will close to new applications on June 1, 2022. Launched in March of last year, the program provides financial assistance to cover rent arrears, forward facing rent, utility arrears and certain other housing expenses. Funded via the U.S. Treasury, the federally-funded RentReliefRI program provides up to 18 months of financial assistance to eligible Rhode Island renters impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
