HUD Publishes Report on Housing Credit Tenant Characteristics

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has published "Understanding Whom the LIHTC Serves: Data on Tenants in LIHTC Units as of December 21, 2017." The report provides demographic data about Housing Credit tenants, including race, ethnicity, family composition, age, income, use of rental assistance, disability status, and monthly rent burden, as required by the Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008.ย HUD typically publishes this report annually; however, publication last year โ€” which would have covered data through the end of 2016 โ€” was delayed due to the government shutdown in early 2019.ย HUD ultimately decided to wait until 2020 to publish the report, which covers both 2016 and 2017 tenant data submissions from state Housing Credit agencies.ย 

Florida Housing Finance Corporation Successfully Offers Assistance to Homeless Schoolchildren in Santa Rosa County

Florida Housing Finance Corporation (Florida Housing) has recently released its findings from a pilot program conducted in Santa Rosa County looking at the significant need for affordable, permanent housing options for homeless families with school-aged children. The state of Florida currently has more than 96,208 homeless schoolchildren, and in many cases, a lack of stable housing prevents these children from attending school on a consistent basis.

VHFA Awards Federal Tax Credits for Future Construction of Affordable Apartments Statewide

The Vermont Housing Finance Agency (VHFA) Board of Commissioners announced yesterday that its annual allocation of federal housing tax credits will support the development of 130 permanently affordable apartments in five communities across the state. โ€œDespite the unique circumstances caused by the coronavirus outbreak, it was very important for VHFA to move ahead with the tax credit allocation,โ€ remarked VHFA Executive Director Maura Collins.

NCSHA Calls on HUD to Provide Regulatory Relief for HOME, HTF, and ESG Programs

NCSHA, on March 30, sent a letter to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development urging the department to waive certain program rules, extend deadlines, and make other accommodations for Community Planning and Development programs necessary to help grantees address housing needs resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. Our recommendations focus on the HOME Investment Partnerships Program, the Housing Trust Fund, and Emergency Solutions Grants.

Affordability Extended for Lower-Income Seniors at New Bedford Housing Community as a Result of $42.7 Million in MassHousing Financing

MassHousing has provided $42.7 million in affordable housing financing to Affordable Housing and Services Collaborativeย (AHSC)ย toย preserve andย extend the affordabilityย for lower-income senior citizens for at least 36 years at the 327-unit Melville Towers in New Bedford. โ€œMelville Towers has been a longstanding source of quality affordable housing for senior citizens in New Bedford,โ€ย saidย MassHousingย Executive Directorย Chrystal Kornegay.ย โ€œWe are pleased that this transaction will ensure that these homes will remain affordable to the residents there for at least 36 more years.โ€ย ย
