CARES Act Forbearance Fact Sheet for Mortgagees and Servicers of FHA, VA, or USDA Loans

The Federal Housing Administration (FHA), Department of Agriculture (USDA), and Department of Veteran Affairs (VA), have aligned to provide servicers with information that outlines their responses to forbearance and loss mitigation options available under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.

House Congressional Sign-On Letter in Support of Assistance for Homeowners

On May 6, 2020, 32 House members, led by Representative David Scott (D-GA), sent this letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) in support of $75 billion for assistance to help homeowners to prevent foreclosures, defaults, and loss of utilities. 

Representatives Stivers, Ruppersberger, Others Encourage Treasury and Federal Reserve to Support Municipal Bonds

On May 1, Representatives Steve Stivers (R-OH), C.A. “Dutch” Ruppersberger (D-MD), and 41 colleagues from both parties sent Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and Federal Reserve Board Chairman Jerome Powell this letter calling on them to use authority and funding provided in the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act to support the municipal secondary market and fully re-open the primary municipal market.

HUD Final Rule: Streamlining Administrative Regulations for Multifamily Housing Programs and Implementing Family Income Reviews Under the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (FAST) Act

HUD published in the Federal Register a final rule implementing Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (FAST) Act legislation allowing public housing authorities (PHAs) and owners to conduct full income recertifications for families with 90 percent or more of their income from fixed income every 3 years instead of annually. The rule is effective June 8, 2020.

National Sign-On Letter in Support of Emergency Rental Assistance and Rental Market Stabilization Act

On May 6, 2020, 115 national organizations, including NCSHA, sent this letter to House and Senate leaders in support of legislation that would provide $100 billion in emergency rental assistance through the Emergency Solutions Grant program to respond to rental housing needs due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

HOME Coalition Letter to Congressional Leadership in Support of HOME Resources in Coronavirus Response Legislation

On May 6, members of the HOME Coalition, which NCSHA chairs, sent this letter to congressional leadership, urging Congress to provide additional resources for HOME in the next coronavirus response legislation.

ACTION Campaign Letter to Congressional Leaders Urging Enactment of Housing Credit Priorities Related to COVID-19 Pandemic

The ACTION Campaign, which NCSHA co-chairs with Enterprise Community Partners, sent this letter, signed by 2,353 organizations from across the nation, to House and Senate leaders urging them to enact a minimum 4 percent Housing Credit rate and lower the 50 percent test in the next coronavirus response legislation.
