Boatman Patterson Re-Appointed as California Housing Finance Agency Executive Director

Tia Boatman Patterson was re-appointed as Executive Director of the California Housing Finance Agency by Governor Gavin Newsom on Tuesday. The position requires state Senate confirmation. Boatman Patterson was originally appointed to the post by Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. in 2014, after she served on CalHFAโ€™s Board of Directors, and the Agency has flourished during her time at the helm.

Senate Republicans Unveil Coronavirus Relief Plan, Setting Stage for Negotiations with House Democrats

On July 27, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) began releasing a series of bills that together constitute the Republicansโ€™ proposal for the next coronavirus relief package.ย The approximately $1 trillion proposal is the result of lengthy negotiations with the White House and internal discussions among Senate Republicans, yet reportedly some Republican Senators may still not support the plan.ย 

OHFA Trustees Approve HOME Contracts to Bring Single Family Houses to Oklahoma Communities

Six Oklahoma non-profit housing organizations plan to utilize funding approved by Oklahoma Housing Finance Agencyโ€™s Board of Trustees to build or rehabilitate houses for low income residents living in communities across the state. Each organization also received an operating assistance grant. Additionally, Community Action Agency of Oklahoma City and Oklahoma/Canadian Counties, Inc. received a $200,000 grant that will provide assistance to 15 homebuyers across Oklahoma and Canadian Counties.

Denver Maw Named CHFA Finance Director

Colorado Housing and Finance Authority (CHFA) is pleased to announce Denver Maw has been named as the organizationโ€™s finance director. Maw joined CHFA in 2013 and most recently served as finance manager, overseeing CHFAโ€™s debt issuance and administration.ย โ€œI look forward to collaborating with CHFAโ€™s partners, customers, and our internal teams to meet the needs of affordable housing and community development finance in Colorado. CHFA is an excellent organization to be a part of and Iโ€™m honored to serve in this new capacity,โ€ said Maw.

HUD Replaces Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing Rule with Preserving Community and Neighborhood Choice Rule

On July 23, HUD issued a new Preserving Community and Neighborhood Choice final rule, which repeals the 2015 Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing final rule and the 1994 Analysis of Impediments requirements, returning to HUDโ€™s pre-1994 understanding of the 1968 Fair Housing Actโ€™s obligation to affirmatively further fair housing.ย The Preserving Community and Neighborhood Choice rule requires HUD grantees to certify they will use HUD funds to take active steps to promote fair housing.ย HUD will deem sufficient a granteeโ€™s certification so long as the grantee proposes to take any action above what is required by statute to promote the attributes of fair housing.ย The rule defines fair housing as โ€œhousing that, among other attributes is affordable, safe, decent, free of unlawful discrimination, and accessible under civil rights laws.โ€ย The final rule is not subject to public notice or comments and will be effective 30 days after its publication in the Federal Register.ย

WHEDA Awards National Housing Trust Funds

Three projects that will provide housing to extremely low-income elderly and disabled residents have been awarded a total of $1.9 million in National Housing Trust Fund financing by the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority. The projects, in Ashwaubenon, Bristol and Milwaukee, previously received highly competitive federal 9% or state 4% housing tax credits administered by WHEDA.
