MassHousing Closes on $25.2 Million in Financing for New, Mixed-Income and Workforce Housing Community in Downtown Lowell

MassHousing has closed on a total of $25.2 million in affordable housing financing to WinnCompanies for the development of 125 new rental homes in downtown Lowell. The MassHousing financing will allow WinnCompanies to advance the redevelopment of Lowellโ€™s Hamilton Canal Innovation District, while creating new housing for households across a broad range of incomes, including 54 new workforce housing units.

LHC Approves $106 Million to Develop Sustainable Multifamily Housing in Flood Impacted Parishes

Today, the Louisiana Housing Corporationโ€™s (LHC) Board of Directors unanimously approved $106 million in Piggyback Resilient Mixed-Income (PRIME) funding. The move substantially addresses the needs of Louisianaโ€™s low-to-moderate income renters who were greatly affected by the March and April floods of 2016. PRIME funding is utilized to develop resilient and sustainable multifamily properties in areas impacted by the floods.

Dettlaff Selected as Homeownership Division Director

Brandon Dettlaff has been selected as North Dakota Housing Finance Agencyโ€™s (NDHFA) new homeownership division director. An NDHFA employee for 13 years, Dettlaff previously served as the agencyโ€™s servicing coordinator, managing the staff that supports the needs of the agencyโ€™s more than 11,000 borrowers. โ€œBrandon did a great job as the homeownership divisionโ€™s servicing coordinator,โ€ said Dave Flohr, NDHFA executive director.

Vermont Homes Used as Short-Term Rentals on the Rise

Until the recent COVID-19 restrictions, the number of Vermont homes used as short-term rentals has ticked up each year, according to a recent analysis by Vermont Housing Finance Agency. In a typical month last year, about 8,000 homes were listed as short-term rentals across the state. Largely located in towns located near Vermont ski areas, homes rented for short-term stays comprise about 2.5% of the stateโ€™s total housing stock.

In 2006, The South Carolina State Housing Finance and Development Authority (SC Housing) created Palmetto Heroes to help bring homeownership within reach for some of the most courageous and dedicated community servants in our state. This year, the program is expanding to recognize and assist additional essential workers who have stepped up to keep our state running during the COVID-19 pandemic.

LHC Awarded Increase in Mainstream Voucher Program Funding

The Louisiana Housing Corporation was awarded $244,692 in additional Mainstream Voucher Program funding by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) in May. The funding was authorized by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act and represents a 30 percent increase in voucher funds received by the LHC in 2018 and 2019.

Cambridge Housing Community Will Have Extensive Renovations and Residents Will Have Affordability Extended with $45 Million in MassHousing Financing

MassHousing is providing a total of $45 million in affordable housing financing to an affiliate of the Cambridge Housing Authority (CHA), for the modernization and preservation of the 198-unit Daniel F. Burns Apartments. The MassHousing financing will allow the CHA to make extensive renovations to the Burns Apartments, including the installation of sustainable building systems, and will extend affordability for low-income senior citizens and residents with disabilities for at least 20 years.

Mayors Press Congress to Enact 4 Percent Minimum Rate, Lower 50 Percent Test in the Next Coronavirus Relief Legislation

On June 1, 67 mayors representing communities across 28 states and the District of Columbia sent a letter to House and Senate leaders urging Congress to establish a minimum 4 percent rate for bond-financed properties and lower the โ€œ50 percent testโ€ financed-by threshold that bond-financed Credit properties must meet to receive 4 percent Housing Credits in the next coronavirus relief legislation. Mayors from both parties signed the letter.ย The letter was coordinated by the ACTION Campaign, a coalition of more than 2,300 organizations and businesses across the nation co-chaired by NCSHA and Enterprise Community Partners.
