Supportive Housing Webinar to Focus on Property Management and Community Success
The real benefits to communities come when neighborhoods improve, the need for crisis care is reduced and individuals gain access to stable, affordable shelter and services that increase well-being and productivity. The event, the last in a series of four, is made possible through a first-of-its-kind partnership between the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority and Corporation for Supportive Housing (CSH) to expand the supply of affordable, supportive housing in Wisconsin. Speakers include:ย Tonya Buchner, director of risk and compliance for WHEDA; Angie Miller, property manager for Cardinal Capital Management, Inc.; Katrina Van Valkenburgh, central regional managing director for CSH and Johnna Lowe, a senior program manager for CSH.
Rep. Todd Novak joins WHEDA Board
State Rep. Todd Novak has been appointed to serve as a member of the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority (WHEDA) Board of Directors. Novak represents Wisconsinโs 51stย Assembly District, which includes the city of Dodgeville, central and western Iowa County, Lafayette County, as well as southwest Green County, southeast Richland County and southwest Sauk County. A native of Cobb, Novak was first elected to the Assembly in November 2014.

The Murphy Administration today announced a new collaboration between University Hospital in Newark and L+M Development Partners, Type A Projects, and MSquared under the New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agencyโs (NJHMFA) groundbreaking Hospital Partnership Subsidy Program, through which leading hospitals partner with experienced residential developers to provide vital affordable and supportive housing -- including homes for frequent users of emergency services -- in their host communities.ย
NCSHA Publishes Top Policy Priorities for Infrastructure Legislation
As three key congressional committees with jurisdiction over affordable housing activities โ the Senate Finance and Banking Committees and House Ways and Means Committee โ hold hearings this week on infrastructure investment, and the White House continues discussions with congressional leaders and other key members of Congress about the size, scope, and funding for infrastructure legislation, NCSHA is releasing its policy priorities for affordable housing investment as part of the infrastructure discussion.ย This memorandum outlines NCSHAโs position on how Congress can best target affordable housing infrastructure investments by stabilizing the existing stock of affordable owner-occupied and rental homes and stimulating the creation of new affordable homes and apartments, in particular for people and communities of color and in ways that are both energy efficient and environmentally sustainable.ย
Governor Hogan Announces $192.9 Million in Additional Emergency Rental Assistance Awards to Local Jurisdictions
Governor Larry Hogan today announced an additional $192.9 million in funding has been awarded to local governments and service providers through the Emergency Rental Assistance Program. These federal funds will support local Maryland Eviction Prevention Partnership initiatives that assist tenants whose ability to pay rent has been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The governor also announced that the DHCD will reopen its Assisted Housing Relief Program, which provides rental assistance to tenants in properties financed by the department.

Texas Rent Relief Program Provides Over $100 Million in Assistance, Helps Tenants and Landlords Avoid Eviction
Today the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs (TDHCA) announced it has already distributed more than $100 million in rental and utility assistance to Texans in need. TDHCA is administering a $1.3 billion grant in emergency federal relief funds from the U.S. Department of the Treasury to help income-eligible Texans struggling to keep up with rent and utility payments during the pandemic. Renters get assistance with up to 12 months of rental assistance including back rent and up to three months of future rent, as well as utility assistance.
Technical College System of Georgia and Georgia Department of Community Affairs to Implement $8.367 Million Grant in Southwest Georgia
The Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) has been selected by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA) to administer the Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) Workforce Development Program. The grant will utilize $8.367 million of the $41.837 million allocation from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) awarded to Georgia in response to Hurricane Michael (2018). This partnership marks the advent of a four-year program to support Georgians by supplying residents of communities impacted by the disaster with the necessary skills and job readiness to increase their household income.
