CHFA Awarded $9 Million in Capital Magnet Funds to Support Affordable Housing

Colorado Housing and Finance Authority (CHFA) has been awarded a $9 million Capital Magnet Fund (CMF) grant to support the development and preservation of affordable rental housing across Colorado. CHFA was selected to receive an award among 59 total recipients nationwide.

State Agencies and Domestic Violence Organizations to Launch the First Statewide Database Solution for Survivors of Domestic Violence

The Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA), the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS), Division of Victim Services (DVS), Michigan Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence (MCEDSV), and Michigan Coalition Against Homelessness (MCAH), are pleased to announce that Apricot/Social Solutions has been selected to establish a single comparable database to support domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking survivors and homelessness.

MSHDA Board Approves Funding for Four Housing Development Projects to Create or Preserve More than 760 Affordable Rental Housing Units

Housing developments in Clawson, Detroit, Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo received loan approval from the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) Board this week to construct 466 new affordable apartments and preserve 300 more across the three projects.

Financial Services Committee Advances Bill to Establish Down Payment Assistance Program

The House Financial Services Committee voted Thursday afternoon to favorably report legislation, the Downpayment Toward Equity Act (H.R. 4495), that would establish a grant program to provide down payment and other home purchase assistance to underserved home buyers.ย  NCSHA supported the legislation, which was introduced by Committee Chair Maxine Waters (D-CA), and worked with Committee staff to strengthen it.

Cortez Masto and Moore Introduce Legislation to Strengthen MRBs and MCCs

Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV) and Representative Gwen Moore (D-WI) earlier today introduced the Affordable Housing Bond Enhancement Act. This legislation, which NCSHA has worked on closely with the senatorโ€™s and congresswomanโ€™s offices, will expand the HFAsโ€™ ability to provide affordable homeownership by strengthening the Mortgage Revenue Bond (MRB) and Mortgage Credit Certificate (MCC) programs.

Treasury Awards $336.4 Million for Affordable Housing Through Capital Magnet Fund

On June 22, the U.S. Department of the Treasuryโ€™s Community Development Financial Institutions Fund (CDFI Fund) announced the recipients of the FY 2021 Capital Magnet Fund awards. 27 nonprofit housing organizations and 32 CDFIs โ€“ including five HFAs โ€“ will receive a total of $336.4 million for the development and preservation of affordable housing targeted to low-, very low-, and extremely low-income families.
