Board Approves $97.4 Million in Bonds to Increase Affordable Rental Units Across Louisiana

The Louisiana Housing Corporation (LHC)'s Board of Directors approved the issuance of $97.4 million in Multifamily Mortgage Revenue Bonds to create 984 affordable rental units across Louisiana. The developments represent a mix of new construction and preservation developments that aim to assist working families, households with children, seniors, and people with disabilities.

May yer Thao Selected as WHEDA’s Assistant Deputy Director

The Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority (WHEDA) has announced that May yer (pronounced “mine-za”) Thao has been selected by Governor Tony Evers to serve as WHEDA’s Assistant Deputy Director. In this leadership role, May yer will utilize her business development experience and strategic relationships to expand WHEDA’s mission in underserved communities. She will also represent WHEDA on the Governor’s Council on Mental Health.

PHFA Issues RFP for Local Groups to Request Funding for Housing Initiatives

The Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency today is issuing a Request for Proposals soliciting applications from organizations for projects to improve the availability and affordability of housing across the commonwealth. Funding for this RFP is being provided through the Pennsylvania Housing Affordability and Rehabilitation Enhancement (PHARE) Fund. The total PHARE funding available this year exceeds $54 million.

CalHFA Introduces New Program for Native American Homebuyers

CalHFA’s Single Family Lending Division has added another home loan program to its portfolio, helping Native Americans in California become homebuyers through the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Section 184 Indian Home Loan Guarantee Program. The program provides competitive interest and mortgage insurance rates, and can be paired with CalHFA’s MyHome or School Teacher and Employee down payment programs.

Iowa Affordable Housing Initiatives Showcased with 2019 HousingIowa Awards

The Iowa Finance Authority recently recognized outstanding affordable housing initiatives and leaders with HousingIowa Awards at the 2019 HousingIowa Conference in Cedar Rapids. The HousingIowa Awards recognize outstanding programs, projects and professionals for leadership and innovation in advancing affordable housing development in Iowa. The award categories include: Innovation, Multifamily, Single-Family, Special Needs Development and Legislative Friend of Housing.

DCHFA Invests in Ward 7 with Funding of The Solstice II

The District of Columbia Housing Finance Agency (DCHFA) ended the month of August by funding a third development in Ward 7.  On August 29, DCHFA issued $18.6 million in bond financing and underwrote $12.5 million in low income housing tax credit equity for the construction of The Solstice II (3500 East Capitol Street NE Apartments).

WHEDA’s Matt Childress Begins New Role as Commercial Lending Product Manager

The Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority (WHEDA) has promoted Matt Childress to Commercial Lending Product Manager. As Product Manager, Childress will lead WHEDA’s Housing Tax Credit program and will be responsible for the implementation and oversite of the tax credit Qualified Allocation Plan. He will also engage with internal leadership and external partners to manage and monitor WHEDA’s housing policies and programs.

Charles L. Borgman Named CHFA Interim General Counsel

Colorado Housing and Finance Authority (CHFA) is pleased to announce Charles L. Borgman has been named interim general counsel. Borgman, an attorney with the Colorado law firm, Ireland Stapleton Pryor & Pascoe, PC, takes on this position after serving as CHFA’s general counsel from 2004 to 2016.

Iowa Finance Authority Announces Availability of New Data on Demographics, Economics and Housing

The Iowa Finance Authority today announced the availability of new economic and housing data and forecasts. The information is available on the Iowa Profile, a centralized and interactive collection of demographic, economic and housing data. The Profile was commissioned by the Iowa Finance Authority and developed by Western Economic Services, LLC.
