At its recent meeting, New Hampshire Housing Finance Authority’s Board of Directors approved the commitment of $ 750,000 for an affordable housing development in Concord that will add 11 rental units to the state’s housing supply.

Sponsored by Concord Housing + Redevelopment, Pitman Place is a special needs project that will provide 11 affordable one-bedroom apartments for mentally challenged and physically disabled individuals with low- and moderate-incomes. To add these housing units to the community, former office space in an existing public housing building will be renovated.  This use of space is not only innovative but provides a cost-effective solution for housing a special needs population.  As of today, there are about 270 applications from individuals with disabilities on the public housing waiting list.

“Our efforts are focused on improving the quality of life of our residents through the housing opportunities and services we provide,” said John Hoyt, Executive Director of Concord Housing + Redevelopment. “We’re thrilled to be able to make a direct impact on the needs of the individuals and families who will benefit from the Pitman Place project.”

In addition, residents of the development will receive comprehensive services through a variety of organizations, including: Riverbend, Community Bridges, the Visiting Nurse Association, Meals on Wheels, the Belknap-Merrimack Community Action Program, and the Concord Housing Authority.
