State to Release Results of First Housing Study in Nearly Three Decades

A year-long comprehensiveĀ statewide housing needs assessmentā€”the first of its kind undertaken in 27 yearsā€”is nearing completion, and Kansans are invited to learn about preliminary findings in a series of regional community meetings. The study identifies current housing needs and growth opportunities, including goals to guide the stateā€™s future housing development efforts. ā€œFor too long, Kansas has operated without a strategic focus to guide our housing investment, hindering our stateā€™s economic development,ā€ said Ryan Vincent, Executive Director of Kansas Housing Resources Corporation.

MassHousing has closed on $35.3 million in affordable housing financing to Urban Edge for the refinancing and extensive renovation of the 78-unit Bancroft Dixwell Apartments in Roxbury and Jamaica Plain.ā€ÆUrban Edge will utilize the funding to make substantial renovations to the properties, investing approximately $17 million in property upgrades. As part of the transaction, Urban Edge is merging the 45-unit Bancroft Apartments, and the 33-unit Dixwell Apartments,Ā  in Roxbury and Jamaica Plain, into one scattered-site entity.Ā Ā

MSHDA Board Approves Loans to Support Acquisition, Rehabilitation of Nearly 600 Rental Units as Gov. Whitmer Prioritizes Affordable Housing

Several multifamily housing developments received approval for loans from the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) Board during its November meeting. The loans will be used to acquire, redevelop and/or rehabilitate nearly 600 units, many of which are designated as affordable. Approvals for these loans comes shortly after Governor Whitmer announced her goal of having 75,000 new or rehabilitated housing units within the next five years as part of her MI New Economy plan.
