The Deadline for NJHMFAโs Small Landlord Emergency Grant Program Is Tuesday, October 13, at 4PM
There is still time for vulnerable tenants and landlords to benefit from the NJHMFA reopened SLEG Program. The program will close on Tuesday, October 13th at 4:00 p.m. NJHMFA, whose mission is to increase the availability and accessibility of quality affordable housing to families in New Jersey, developed the SLEG Program to reimburse landlords of properties with between 3 and 30 units for missed or reduced rent payments between April 2020 and July 2020 due to COVID-19. Landlords approved for a grant must forgive any back rent or late fees incurred by their tenants.

IowaHousingSearch.org Provides Real-Time Rental Vacancy Information to Iowans, Including Disaster Victims
The IowaHousingSearch.org website offers Iowans searching for rental housing, including those that may be temporarily displaced due to natural disaster, a resource of up-to-date rental units with current vacancies. The website offers detailed listings of 56,000 housing units, including more than 2,200 immediately available units in the 27 counties declared disaster areas after the August derecho. โThe IowaHousingSearch.org site is a powerful resource that provides a critical link between thousands of available rental units and the Iowans searching for them,โ said Iowa Finance Authority Executive Director Debi Durham.ย
CARES Assistance Programs for PA Renters and Homeowners Are Restarted
Governor Tom Wolf today issued an emergency order suspending the statutory deadline provision in the COVID Relief-Mortgage and Rental Assistance Grant Program. The deadline under section 191-C(g)(3) of Act 24 of 2020 originally scheduled for Sept. 30 was stayed by the governor, effective today, for 30 days until Nov. 4, 2020, in order for the program to be able to continue accepting applications. The CARES assistance programs for Pennsylvania renters and homeowners have been reopened and will be accepting applications until Nov. 4.
PHFA Issues RFP to Fund Mixed-Use Development Projects
The Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency today is issuing a Request for Proposals for new construction, or the rehabilitation, of mixed-use projects seeking financial support. Funding will be provided through the Community Revitalization Fund Program. Mixed-use projects combine residential and retail/commercial space in the same building and often serve as a catalyst for neighborhood revitalization. The deadline for proposal submission is 2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 4.

MassHousing and the Boston Housing Authority Announce Financing for the Third Phase of the Redevelopment of the Anne M. Lynch Homes at Old Colony in South Boston
MassHousing has closed on a total of $78.8 million in financing to Beacon Communities LLC, to complete the thirdย phase of the redevelopment of obsolete public housing at the Anne M. Lynch Homes at Old Colony in South Boston. Theย MassHousingย financing will allow Beacon Communities, in partnership with theย Boston Housing Authorityย (BHA),ย to demolish 135 older public housing units and constructย 170 new affordable homes for lower-income families and senior citizens.
LHC Announces Improvements to Emergency Rental Assistance Program
Today, the Louisiana Housing Corporation announced improvements to the Louisiana Emergency Rental Assistance Program (LERAP) to improve access for renters and landlords impacted by COVID-19. LHC has reduced the application length and divided it into components for renters and landlords. E-signatures are now allowed for faster receipt of documentation required by the federal government. In addition to hosting in-person outreach events in New Orleans and Baton Rouge, LHC is scheduling events around the state to serve those with limited access to the internet, or who otherwise may need help in submitting their application.
House Leadership Issues Revised $2.2 Trillion Coronavirus Relief Bill
Late yesterday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) issued a revised version of the Health and Economic Recovery Omnibus Emergency Solutions (HEROES) Act, cutting more than $1 trillion from the original version of the legislation the House passed in May. However, it remains to be seen whether renewed conversations among House, Senate, and White House negotiators will result in further coronavirus relief action before the election, as thus far Republicans have resisted spending as much as proposed in the revised bill.

Today, NJHMFA announced the expansion and reopening of its SLEG Program to assist vulnerable renters across the state by covering their missed rent from April through July 2020. The program will reopen today, Monday, September 28th, at noon and will run until Tuesday, October 13th at 4:00 p.m. NJHMFA, whose mission is to increase the availability of and accessibility to safe, decent, and affordable housing to families in New Jersey, developed the SLEG Program to reimburse small landlords for missed or reduced rent payments between April 2020 and July 2020 due to COVID-19.
