McKee Administration, RIHousing Support Creation of 431 Critically-Needed Affordable Homes

RIHousingโ€™s Board of Commissioners approved investments at its April Board meeting that will create 431 affordable homes, significantly improve the neighborhoods where they are located, and support over 1,240 jobs. Funding awards were approved for five developments located in East Greenwich, Lincoln, Middletown and Providence. โ€œAddressing the housing crisis in Rhode Island is one of the top priorities of the McKee-Matos Administration and these awards represent a significant investment in addressing the housing needs of Rhode Islanders,โ€ said Governor Dan McKee.

CHFA Invests $1.2 Million to Support College Scholarships

Colorado Housing and Finance Authority (CHFA) is proud to announce its new Building the Future Scholarship Fund, which dedicates $1.2 million to support college education across Colorado. The multiphase, multiyear fund will provide up to 260 scholarships to be awarded over 10-year periods. CHFA created the fund to strengthen Coloradoโ€™s future workforce, advance equity in education access, and promote leadership in affordable housing and economic development.

HUD Awards Maryland Over $6.9 Million in Housing Assistance for Marylanders with Disabilities

Over $6.9 million in Section 811 project rental assistance has been awarded to the state of Maryland through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)'s Project Rental Assistance Program Grant. The 811 funds were awarded to fifteen other states in the country, totaling $54.7 million in affordable rental assistance nationwide.ย This funding will allow the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development to grow and expand the state's affordable rental housing opportunities for residents with disabilities living on low income.

The Building Michigan Communities Conference (BMCC) will kick off on May 3, with a welcome session featuring MSHDA Executive Director Gary Heidel, HUD Regional Administrator Diane Shelley and a keynote address from Donna Beegle, PhD, author of See Povertyโ€ฆBe the Difference. For more than 25 years, Dr. Beegle has worked extensively nationally and internationally to assist organizations with proven strategies for breaking poverty barriers.

MaineHousing Names Janotta Chief Counsel

Ashley Janotta has been promoted to the position of Chief Counsel at MaineHousing, the housing finance authority for Maine. She most recently worked as a staff attorney for the Augusta-based agency. She is a graduate of the University of Maine School of Law in Portland. Janotta also holds a bachelorโ€™s degree in political science from the University of Maine.

Maryland Mortgage Program Announces Launch of New Products

The Maryland Department of Housing and Community Developmentโ€™s Maryland Mortgage Program today announced the launch of two new loan products to provide higher levels of down payment and closing cost assistance. The Maryland Mortgage Program has been the stateโ€™s flagship homeownership program for over 40 years, and, for the past three years, has averaged over $1 billion in home loan reservations, helping more than 5,000 Marylanders get into their dream home each year.ย 

Senator Reed Joins Partners and Residents to Celebrate Affordable Apartments in Narragansett

U.S. Senator Jack Reed and R.I. Deputy Secretary of Commerce for Housing Josh Saal joined Preservation of Affordable Housing (POAH), RIHousing, community partners and residents to celebrate the completion of renovation work at Beachwinds Apartments in Narragansett on Monday, April 18. Beachwinds Apartments, just blocks from Narragansett Sound, is a 104-unit affordable housing community consisting of two senior developments โ€“ Beachwood Apartments and South Winds Apartments.

Gov. Wolf Announces Projects to Receive $3.7 Million for Community Revitalization

Governor Tom Wolf today announced six projects to be awarded $3.7 million for the construction or rehabilitation of mixed-used developments. The funding was raised through the sale of tax credits under the Mixed-Use Development Tax Credit Program, the proceeds of which are being used to fund the work of the Community Revitalization Fund Program. The goal of the Community Revitalization Fund Program is to stimulate high-impact neighborhood revitalization projects around the state.

Governor Larry Hogan today announced nearly $10 million in grant awards through the new Community Safety Works program to more than 300 business districts and nonprofit organizations across Maryland, advancing a key plank of the governorโ€™sย Re-Fund The Police Initiative. Administered by the DHCD, Community Safety Works awards grants to encourage the implementation of crime prevention strategies through physical design improvements, operational activities, community vigilance, blight removal, and increased property maintenance.
