Governor Signs Legislation to Provide Millions In Funding to Address Affordable Housing Crisis in New Mexico

On Wednesday, March 15, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham signed into law Senate Bill 381, bipartisan legislation that will provide an estimated $37 million in funding this year to the New Mexico Housing Trust Fund, which is administered by the stateโ€™s housing agency, the New Mexico Mortgage Finance Authority (MFA).

MSHDA Board Supports Bond Sales for Down Payment Assistance, New Gap Funding Program and Affordable Housing Development Projects

In its March meeting, the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) Board approved the issuance and sale of revenue bonds to be used to provide down payment assistance (DPA) loans to Michiganders while also approving a new gap financing program and funding for affordable housing projects in Grand Rapids, Flint and St. Clair.

This week, the Treasury Department celebrated the second anniversary of the signing of the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), which authorized key emergency programs in response to the coronavirus pandemic and the economic fallout it created. State housing finance agencies have played an integral role in the implementation of the ARPA programs that kept Americans stably housed during the pandemic and facilitated the financial feasibility of housing development despite a volatile economic environment. ARPA-authorized housing programs include the Emergency Rental Assistance (ERA) 2 program (ERA 1 having been authorized in other legislation shortly before ARPAโ€™s enactment), the Homeowner Assistance Fund (HAF), the Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Fund (FRF), and the HOME-ARP program at HUD.
