NCSHA Endorses 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act
WASHINGTON, DC — The National Council of State Housing Agencies strongly supports the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, which is under consideration by the Senate currently and for which a final vote is expected next week. The bill combines most of the House-passed Housing for the 21st Century Act, which NCSHA also endorsed, with most of the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee-reported ROAD to Housing Act. “The bill is the most significant affordable housing legislation Congress has considered in decades. It would modernize and strengthen so many of the key affordable housing programs state housing finance agencies rely on to provide housing help to the people they serve,” said NCSHA Executive Director Stockton Williams.
NCSHA has worked with housing leaders in both chambers over many months on key provisions in the bill that would improve the HOME Investment Partnerships Program, allow banks to increase their investments in Housing Credit properties, preserve affordable housing in rural areas, and make other important enhancements to HUD and USDA affordable housing programs. NCSHA calls on Congress to finish the job and send legislation to the president for his signature.
