HARRISBURG – Registration is open for the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency’s 2022 Multifamily Affordable Housing Conference planned for June 8-10 at Kalahari Resorts in Mount Pocono. This annual conference offers educational sessions and plenary speakers aimed at advancing the professional development of people working in the state’s affordable housing field. More than 500 attendees are expected.

This year’s conference offers a broad schedule of educational offerings with the goal of meeting the varied needs of Pennsylvania’s housing professionals. The event will include 53 breakout sessions on specialized topics and three plenary keynotes, plus a special welcome by PHFA Executive Director and CEO Robin Wiessmann.

“This conference always features outstanding expert speakers on a wide variety of housing topics,” said Wiessmann. “For people working in multifamily rental housing, there is no better conference in the state for professional development. Plus, the chance to network and learn from peers in the housing field is outstanding.”

The three keynote speakers at this year’s conference will be Brenda K. Reynolds, speaking about “Transition Fog”; Phillip Deas, a championship winning athlete and coach delivering his presentation “Stance to Advance”; and we’ll be welcoming back Keva White, who will end our keynote sessions on Friday morning with a presentation titled “Understanding the Causations of Poverty.”

Examples of educational topics covered in this year’s conference include updated information about medical marijuana and housing, information about programs to reduce homelessness, social determinants of health and housing, and fair housing laws.

The conference is tailored to provide professional development for such people as multifamily property developers and managers, staff from public housing and redevelopment authorities, supportive service providers, housing services coordinators and activity directors, state and local government representatives, and people who work for social service agencies, including area agencies on aging, community action agencies and centers for independent living.

New this year, attendees can both register and pay online. The early bird registration fee of $295 ends on Friday, May 6.  Registration after May 6 is $330 and must be completed by May 27.

About PHFA

The Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency works to provide affordable homeownership and rental housing options for older adults, low- and moderate-income families, and people with special housing needs. Through its carefully managed mortgage programs and investments in multifamily housing developments, PHFA also promotes economic development across the state. Since its creation by the legislature in 1972, it has generated more than $15.9 billion of funding for more than 186,412 single-family home mortgage loans, helped fund the construction of 138,000 rental units, distributed approximately $191 million to support local housing initiatives, and saved the homes of more than 50,520 families from foreclosure. PHFA programs and operations are funded primarily by the sale of securities and from fees paid by program users, not by public tax dollars. The agency is governed by a 14-member board.
