MassHousing Closes on $35.3 Million in Financing for the Refinancing and Major Renovation of the 78-Unit Bancroft Dixwell Apartments in Boston
MassHousing has closed on $35.3 million in affordable housing financing to Urban Edge for the refinancing and extensive renovation of the 78-unit Bancroft Dixwell Apartments in Roxbury and Jamaica Plain. Urban Edge will utilize the funding to make substantial renovations to the properties, investing approximately $17 million in property upgrades. As part of the transaction, Urban Edge is merging the 45-unit Bancroft Apartments, and the 33-unit Dixwell Apartments, in Roxbury and Jamaica Plain, into one scattered-site entity.

Kansas Housing Announces New Senior Leaders
Erin Beckerman joins KHRC as General Counsel, following 10 years in private practice at Riordan, Fincher & Beckerman P.A. in Topeka. Jason Fizell directs the Kansas Emergency Rental Assistance (KERA) program, a federally funded relief initiative to support Kansas tenants and landlords financially impacted by the COVID pandemic. Marilyn Stanley joined KHRC in March as the Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) Program Manager and was promoted to direct the forthcoming Kansas Homeowner Assistance Fund (KHAF).
Gov. Edwards, Mayor Hunter Announce $11.3 Million Housing Rehab Program for Lake Charles Residents
"This critical program will help some people impacted by these severe weather events repair their homes, but we are well aware that this is only a start. A large portion of CDBG funding recently allocated to the state of Louisiana for long-term recovery related to the 2020 disasters will go to address unmet housing needs, but the program announced today is a product of the state and city working together to jumpstart that process while we wait for these funds to become available,” Gov. Edwards said.
MSHDA Board Approves Loans to Support Acquisition, Rehabilitation of Nearly 600 Rental Units as Gov. Whitmer Prioritizes Affordable Housing
Several multifamily housing developments received approval for loans from the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) Board during its November meeting. The loans will be used to acquire, redevelop and/or rehabilitate nearly 600 units, many of which are designated as affordable. Approvals for these loans comes shortly after Governor Whitmer announced her goal of having 75,000 new or rehabilitated housing units within the next five years as part of her MI New Economy plan.

WHEDA CEO Altoro Has Accepted Position in Biden Administration
WHEDA Executive Director and CEO Joaquín Altoro has accepted a position in the Biden Administration. This week Altoro was sworn in as the Administrator of Rural Housing Service within the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development. “We are appreciative of Joaquín Altoro’s strategic vision and leadership to help WHEDA advance affordable housing in our rural and urban communities,” said Kim Plache, WHEDA Deputy Executive Director. “And we celebrate his new role at the federal level where he will continue to be an advocate for greater equity in housing and economic opportunity.”
Florida Housing Finance Corporation Honors Military Personnel Through Salute Our Soldiers Program
The Florida Housing Finance Corporation (Florida Housing) launched the Salute Our Soldiers Military Loan Program in 2020 to assist Florida’s growing population of veteran and active-duty military personnel in obtaining permanent housing. The Salute Our Soldiers program offers a variety of down payment and closing cost assistance (DPA), coupled with low interest rate first mortgage loans. Some of the DPA products offered are even forgivable after five years.
CHFA Announces 2021 Round Two Housing Tax Credit Awards
Colorado Housing and Finance Authority (CHFA) is pleased to announce 14 developments will be awarded a reservation of federal and state Housing Tax Credits to support the new construction or preservation of 1,373 affordable apartments. These developments will seek to address various housing needs in Colorado, supporting individuals, families, homeless households, individuals ages 18-24 aging out of foster care, and adults ages 55 or older, and 62 or older.
