Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development Announces $135 Million in Emergency Rental Assistance Funding Provided For Tenants and Landlords Affected By COVID-19 Pandemic

The Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development today announced the Emergency Rental Assistance Program has approved $135 million to assist 15,000 renters affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Early projections show a continued positive trend with an estimated more than $50 million in assistance to be paid out in September.

WHEDA Announces Board Leadership Transition

The Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority (WHEDA) today announced that Ivan Gamboa will step down as WHEDA board chair effective Oct. 1, 2021. Gamboa was initially appointed to the position by former Gov. Scott Walker in 2016 and reappointed to the role by Gov. Tony Evers in 2019. Gov. Evers has appointed WHEDA board member Ranell G. Washington as the new board chair.ย

Following a Tuesday event in Oakland where Governor Gavin Newsom signed legislation to boost affordable housing supply and strengthen accountability measures โ€“ and touted the stateโ€™s $22 billion investment in a broad range of housing types including Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) โ€” the California Housing Finance Agency is thrilled to introduce its new ADU Grant Program.

Strehlow Recognized With Champion of Affordable Housing Legacy Award

North Dakota Housing Finance Agency (NDHFA) recognized Blake Strehlow, executive director of the Housing Authority of Cass County (HACC), with a Champion of Affordable Housing Legacy Award in September at an open house for Monterey and Brighton Place, the housing authorityโ€™s new affordable senior housing community in West Fargo, ND.

Iowa Finance Authority Awards More Than $13.2 Million in Federal Housing Tax Credits for the Construction of Nearly 700 Rental Homes

The Iowa Finance Authority Board of Directors recently awarded a total of more than $13.2 million in federal housing tax credits to support the construction of 699 rental homes for Iowans. The eighteen rental housing projects are located in Boone, Cedar Rapids, Clinton, Council Bluffs, DeWitt, Grinnell, Johnston, Marion, Marshalltown, Shenandoah and West Des Moines.

DCHFA Names Nikol Nabors-Jackson Chief of Staff

DCHFA has a new Chief of Staff, Nikol Nabors-Jackson, a human services and affordable housing professional with more than 20 years of government and non-profit experience. DCHFAโ€™s Executive Director/CEO Christopher E. Donald made the appointment this summer, โ€œNikol is a proven leader who has operated across the human services and housing sectors.

WHEDA Announces Awards for Innovation Housing Tax Credits

The Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority (WHEDA) today announced 9% federal housing tax awards for its 2021 Innovation Housing Tax Credit program. Woodside Prairie, a 32-unit supportive housing development in Grafton and The Shield, a 44-unit supportive housing development in Madison, will each receive a tax credit award of $800,000.

Iowa Finance Authority Awards Habitat for Humanity Affiliates $100,000 to Support Construction of Three Homes in Hawarden and Waterloo

The Iowa Finance Authority Board of Directors recently awarded a total of $100,000 in State Housing Trust Fund grants to Habitat for Humanity affiliates to support the construction of homes in Hawarden and Waterloo. The funding is made available through the State Housing Trust Fundโ€™s Project-Based Housing program.

WHEDA Announces Executive Leadership Change

The Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority (WHEDA) today announced that May yer (โ€œmine-zaโ€) Thao will leave her position as WHEDA Assistant Deputy Director effective September 24, 2021. During her time at WHEDA, Thao has led WHEDAโ€™s equity, diversity, and inclusion efforts throughout all aspects of the organization. She has accepted a new leadership role as President and CEO for the Hmong American Partnership (HAP) in Minnesota.
