NC Housing Finance Agency’s Urgent Repair Program Celebrates 20,000 Homes Served Statewide

Funding Has Helped Low-Income Homeowners in all 100 Counties

RALEIGH—More than 20,000 low-income homeowners in North Carolina have received emergency home repairs thanks to the Urgent Repair Program (URP) administered by the NC Housing Finance Agency. Over the past 31 years, this funding has been awarded to local governments and organizations serving all 100 counties.

Since 1994, URP has been a key component in the tool kits of local governments, regional organizations, community action agencies and other nonprofit sponsors. Funding is provided to these groups to allocate loans to very low-income homeowners for emergency repairs to correct safety hazards, or to make accessibility modifications to homes for elderly citizens, veterans or people with disabilities. More than 200 organizations have received URP funding to date.

URP has twice received special recognition from the National Council of State Housing Agencies, highlighting its success among the NC Housing Finance Agency’s sister agencies. As of 2026, the Agency has committed $106.6 million in URP funds to organizations across the state.

“We are incredibly proud of the work the Urgent Repair Program has accomplished with the dedication of our statewide partners,” said Scott Farmer, executive director of the NC Housing Finance Agency. “Supported by the North Carolina Housing Trust Fund, URP has become a vital resource for our state’s most vulnerable citizens.”

To celebrate this exciting milestone, the Agency will be hosting a series of events around the state over the next few months. More information will be shared as it becomes available.
