KHC Celebrates National Homeownership Month in June

FRANKFORT, Kentucky — In honor of June as National Homeownership Month, Kentucky Housing Corporation (KHC) would like to recognize all of the partners who are helping to spread affordable, accessible homeownership opportunities throughout Kentucky.
“Homeownership is the American dream,” said Winston Miller, KHC’s executive director and chief executive officer. “In more than 50 years, Kentucky Housing Corporation has helped more than 120,000 families achieve that dream with our competitive loan products and down payment assistance.”
In 2023, KHC provided 3,152 home loans for a loan volume of $570.6 million, $25.5 million in down payment assistance, and $133 million in MCC. KHC worked with 102 lending companies, 635 loan officers, 484 real estate companies, and 1,936 real estate agents.
KHC offers affordable housing solutions in the Commonwealth, including competitive mortgage products with more accessible loan eligibility criteria for lower-income families, and down payment assistance up to $10,000. Earlier this year, KHC also awarded 500 qualifying families a $2,000 closing cost grant, which helped them pay for closing, prepaid and down payment costs.
“It is crucial that we at KHC continue to make homeownership affordable and leverage our partnerships with lenders, real estate agents, and housing counselors to educate Kentuckians on what is available to them,” said Jaime Rice, managing director for Single Family Programs. “We all understand just how vital homeownership is for generational wealth and the health of the entire economy of Kentucky.”
To begin the homebuying journey, Kentuckians should contact an approved lender in their county. These trained loan officers will connect prospective homebuyers to the programs and resources to help them achieve their homeownership dream.
Every year, we hear stories from homeowners about the importance of KHC products in their homebuying journey.
“It means everything to me,” said one buyer from 2023 who used multiple KHC products. She grew up in a trailer park and had always dreamed of owning a home. KHC helped make that possible.
Another buyer described being discouraged by the need to put down “a big chunk of money” that she didn’t have saved. She was able to buy a house using down payment assistance. “That’s the reason it was possible,” she said.
Throughout the month of June, KHC will celebrate National Homeownership Month on KHC’s blog or social media: Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn; and listen to stories on Bringing it Home, KHC’s podcast.
