Kentucky Housing Corporation Awarded $8 Million from HUD to Expand Affordable Housing for Persons with Disabilities

FRANKFORT, Kentucky — Kentucky Housing Corporation (KHC) has been awarded $8 million in grant funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to expand affordable housing and supportive services for low-income persons with disabilities in Kentucky. This allocation comes from HUD’s Section 811 Project Rental Assistance (PRA) for Persons with Disabilities program.
“This grant represents another step forward in our mission to provide accessible, quality, and affordable housing for all Kentuckians,” said Wendy Smith, deputy executive director of Housing Programs at KHC. “We are grateful for HUD’s support and look forward to working with our partners to expand affordable housing opportunities for low-income Kentuckians with disabilities.”
KHC will identify approximately 250 affordable apartments to which long-term rent assistance can be committed, making those units affordable for low-income persons with disabilities. Existing and new construction units will be eligible.
Kentucky Housing Corporation, the state housing finance agency, was created by the 1972 General Assembly to provide affordable housing opportunities. As a self-supporting, public corporation, Kentucky Housing offers down payment assistance loans to assist first-time homebuyers obtain home mortgages, housing production financing, homeownership education/counseling, rental assistance, housing rehabilitation, and supportive housing programs for special needs populations.
