CHFA Homebuyer Seminar Heads to Stamford on June 14th

Free Event Offers First-Time Buyers Key Tools for Achieving Homeownership
(ROCKY HILL, Conn.) – May 13, 2025 – The Connecticut Housing Finance Authority (CHFA) is proud to host the third of its four statewide in-person Homebuyer Seminars in Stamford, Connecticut, on Saturday, June 14, as part of its ongoing commitment to support first-time homebuyers.
CHFA offers affordable mortgage loan options with below-market interest rates, along with down payment and closing cost assistance for eligible applicants. In April, the State Bond Commission approved a $35 million allocation to support CHFA’s Time To Own down payment assistance program—funding that will directly benefit qualified first-time homebuyers across Connecticut. At the Stamford seminar, CHFA Business Development Officer Brian Boyaji will explain how this funding translates into real support for buyers, including how eligible applicants can receive up to $25,000 in assistance. He will also outline how the program’s 10% annual loan forgiveness over 10 years can make homeownership more affordable in the long term. Attendees will gain a clear understanding of how to access these newly available funds and take the next steps toward purchasing their first home. CHFA administers the Time To Own program on behalf of the Department of Housing.
The seminar will also feature the Urban League of Southern Connecticut, whose education and counseling programs help families pursue homeownership, improve financial stability, and avoid foreclosure. Clients benefit from financial literacy resources that empower them to secure and maintain safe, decent, and affordable housing.
Understanding mortgage pre-approval is a key step in the homebuying journey. Attendees will also hear from Total Mortgage’s Santos Team, a CHFA-participating lender, who will discuss mortgage options and explain the pre-approval process. Complimentary refreshments will be provided by the Santos Team.
The seminar will be held at the Ferguson Public Library, 1 Public Library Plaza, Stamford, CT 06901, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM. Attendance is free, but registration is encouraged.
