Alabama Housing Finance Authority Launches Financial Literacy Month Activities for Kids

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – April is Financial Literacy Month in the United States. To commemorate this important occasion, the Alabama Housing Finance Authority (AHFA) is launching new additions to its kids’ financial literacy programs.
Later this month, AHFA will present a “FUNancial Literacy” class at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville for children between the ages of 5 and 12. Pre-registered participants will learn about earning, saving, spending, and giving while they enjoy blacklights, puppets, games, giveaways, and more. Following the class exercise, the children and their adult chaperones will have an opportunity to tour the Space and Rocket Center. In conjunction with the space camp event, AHFA has also released the latest installment of its popular video series for children. The new video is called “Bud Goes to Space Camp” and is available at https://youtu.be/cJUGM5yOEDY.
“So many children grow up without basic financial knowledge, and that makes their lives harder as adults,” said AHFA Single‐Family Administrator Carrie Hamaker. “By teaching them early about good savings habits, financial responsibility, and the differences between needs and wants, we’re better equipping today’s kids to reach for the stars tomorrow.”
