KHC and Brighton Center Break Ground on Permanent Supportive Housing Development in Newport

FRANKFORT, Kentucky — Kentucky Housing Corporation (KHC) joined Brighton Center, Brighton Properties, and community partners yesterday to break ground on June Gardens, a 12-unit permanent supportive housing development in Newport, Kentucky. The development will serve individuals and families who are chronically homeless or at risk of homelessness, providing housing and comprehensive services designed to support long-term stability.
The need for permanent supportive housing in Northern Kentucky has been well-documented. In 2024, the Northern Kentucky Local Prioritization Committee Coordinated Entry list included 146 individuals and 29 families in need of affordable housing. June Gardens will prioritize housing for those most in need on that list.
June Gardens is named in honor of June Miller, Brighton Center’s chief financial and administrative officer, who has served the organization and the community for more than 40 years. The development will comprise 12 units across three configurations: six one-bedroom, four two-bedroom, and two three-bedroom apartments. Most units will be located on Ann Street, with one on Roberts Street and one on Brighton Street, near the site where the Brighton Street Center was founded in 1966.
In addition to stable housing, residents will receive rental assistance, case management, and wraparound supportive services. Research demonstrates that this model produces better health outcomes, improves educational stability for children, and connects residents to mental health and physical health services more effectively than alternatives.
KHC invested more than $6.3 million in the project: $573,986 from the Affordable Housing Trust Fund and $5,754,014 from HOME-ARP.
Brighton Properties, a wholly owned subsidiary of Brighton Center, has developed or managed 350 units of quality, accessible, and affordable housing since its creation in 1997.
