NCSHA Commends House of Representatives’ Passage of Comprehensive Housing Bill
WASHINGTON, DC — The National Council of State Housing Agencies commends the U.S. House of Representatives’ passage of the Housing for the 21st Century Act by a vote of 390 – 9 last night. “The huge vote for the bill reflects the strong momentum in Congress to pass comprehensive legislation to address Americans’ housing affordability challenges this year,” said NCSHA Executive Director Stockton Williams. “The nation’s state housing finance agencies commend House Financial Services Committee Chairman French Hill and Ranking Member Maxine Waters and Housing Subcommittee Chairman Mike Flood and Ranking Member Emanuel Cleaver for their efforts to craft and pass this important bill.”
NCSHA worked closely with those House members and others over the past year on the Housing for the 21st Century Act and is especially supportive of several key provisions in the final version of the bill. NCSHA encourages House leaders to work with their counterparts in the Senate, which passed similar comprehensive housing legislation, the Road to Housing Act, last year, to develop consensus on a final bill that President Trump can sign soon.
