LHC Reopens Community Housing Development Organization Certification Application

The Louisiana Housing Corporation (LHC) today announced it has reopened the certification application for its Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO) program for qualified non-profit organizations.
The application for certification of new CHDOs was temporarily suspended but is now available to be submitted anytime throughout the year. The certification lasts for 12 months, at which time a CHDO must submit for recertification.
The updated Policies and Procedures Manual has been posted on the LHC website for the HOME CHDO Program. Interested non-profits are strongly encouraged to review the qualifications and eligibility requirements for Certification, listed in Section III of the Policies and Procedures Manual
LHC serves as a Participating Jurisdiction (PJ) to administer the federal annual allocation of HUD HOME funds on behalf of the State of Louisiana, to produce affordable housing for low-income households, prioritizing the non-entitlement areas of the State. In order to qualify for certain HOME-funded programs (CHAAP and CSAR) and be eligible for possible operating expenses reimbursement, an organization must first apply for certification or designation of CHDO status and provide documentation to LHC on its ability to meet the minimum HUD regulatory standards.
Please email Robert McNeese with any questions regarding the CHDO certification process.
ABOUT LHC
The purpose of the LHC is to substantially increase the availability of affordable, accessible, and safe residential housing in Louisiana. The LHC was created in 2011 when the Louisiana Legislature merged the Louisiana Housing Finance Agency with housing programs from other state agencies to streamline how the state would address its housing needs, avoid duplication of efforts, and improve service to the general public.ย The LHC administers federal and state funds through programs designed to advance the development of energy-efficient and affordable housing for low- and moderate-income families, drives housing policy for Louisiana, and oversees the stateโs Disaster Housing Task Force.ย
