René Acuña

Rene Acuña has served as the Housing New Mexico | MFA Director of Homeownership since 2016. He is active in the Western States Group, which consists of state housing finance agencies’ homeownership representatives. Rene holds a Master of Science in Economics from New Mexico State University. With over 20 years of experience in consumer and commercial lending, he possesses a diverse financial institution and lending background. In 2009, he joined the National Credit Union Administration, which is the regulatory and insuring federal agency over credit unions. His experience in lending proved valuable as financial institutions struggled after the 2008 housing crisis. It was during this time that Rene encountered the “People Helping People” philosophy, which state housing finance agencies similarly share. This concept has had a considerable influence on his lending philosophy.
