Michael Koessel

Mike Koessel has worked in affordable housing serving HFAs for almost 40 years, first as a part-time employee at Caine Gressel Midgley Slater, and subsequently at cfX, Merrill Lynch, and Citigroup.  He ran the Public Finance – Housing group at Citi from 2008 to 2024.  Mike has been at Bank of America since March of 2024.

Over the years he has worked through a wide variety of market conditions and industry challenges, including a number of tax reform changes, the housing-led financial crisis of 2008, and more recently the pandemic and its aftermath.  Over this time he has worked directly with state HFAs at more than half of the states in the nation, and today he continues this HFA-focus on affordable housing with the industry-leading BofA/Merrill Lynch platform.

He holds all the necessary banking registrations and has academic degrees from Williams College (BA) and Columbia University (PhD).
