Chad Benson

Chad Benson is the Director of Development for the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA), where he has been instrumental in the creation and preservation of affordable housing across Michigan. Chad leads the Rental Development division, overseeing affordable housing investments across the state. His responsibilities include managing the underwriting and selection of complex multifamily developments, guiding statewide housing policy through Michigan’s Qualified Allocation Plan (QAP), and supporting the creation of new housing initiatives that advance MSHDA’s development goals. Chad began his role at MSHDA as a Financial Analyst in the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) Program where he identified investment opportunities and offered guidance on MSHDA’s overall financial strategies. He then took the role of managing the LIHTC program where he was responsible for the drafting the Qualified Allocation Plan (QAP). A graduate of Hope College, Chad earned a bachelor’s degree in economics and business management.
