Karen Georgetown

I’m Karen C. Georgetown, and I’ve had the joy of building a career around something I truly love: compliance – yes, really! For over two decades, I’ve worked in the affordable housing industry, a journey that began back in 1998. My first steps were as a compliance officer, where I was introduced to the world of Low-Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC). From there, I wore many hats and soaked up every experience until 2011, when I shifted gears to join the private sector. Last year, life brought me full circle, and I happily returned to MHC, where I now oversee all things compliance. My work isn’t just about enforcement; I believe deeply in education, thoughtful implementation, and findings ways to make a real difference.

Before I dove into affordable housing, I spent time in the classroom, teaching science and social studies to both deaf and hearing-impaired students. That time reminded me of the importance of accessibility, inclusion, and the power of connection – lessons I carry with me to this day.

On the home front, I’m a proud mom of two amazing kids. My daughter, 27, is carving out a career in the entertainment/talent industry in Los Angeles, while my son, 22, is navigating his first year of law school in Texas. They make me endlessly proud! And none of this would be possible without my husband, my rock and soulmate of 30 years, who brings so much laughter, love, and balance to my life.

In my downtime, you’ll often find me rearranging furniture or picking out the perfect accent piece – interior design and home decor are my happy place! There’s nothing quite like turning a space into something beautiful, one ”furniture move” at a time.
