RentReliefRI Surpasses $50 Million in Rental and Utility Assistance to Rhode Island Renters
RIHousing announced today that the RentReliefRI program has approved over $50 million in rental and utility assistance funds to almost 4,600 renter households. The federally-funded program serves as a lifeline for struggling Rhode Island renters and provides up to 18 months of rental and utility assistance for tenants impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Maryland Wins National Award for Cecilton Senior Village Project
Last week, at the 50th Annual National Council of State Housing Agencies Conference, the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development was recognized and won the Special Achievement award. The departmentโs entry โPartnerships for Responsive Revitalizationโ featured a six-year undertaking known as the โCecilton Senior Villageโ project.
Treasury Issues Guidance on Emergency Rental Assistance Reallocation
Today, the U.S. Treasury Department published the framework for reallocation of Emergency Rental Assistance (ERA) program funds authorized by the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021 (ERA 1). That legislation, which provided the first $25 billion in ERA resources, requires Treasury to identify โexcess fundsโ from amounts grantees have not obligated beginning September 30, 2021, and reallocate those resources to grantees who have obligated at least 65 percent of their initial ERA 1 allocation.
Tax Credits Will Provide Financing for More Than 786 Units of Affordable Housing, Fund Loan Program
The Connecticut Housing Finance Authority has awarded $10.9 million from the State Housing Tax Credit Contribution (HTCC) program to non-profit developers of affordable housing and non-profit housing loan programs in Connecticut (a list of recipients is included below).ย The recipients offer the tax credits to business firms in exchange for cash contributions toward their affordable housing developments or loan funds.

DCHFA and H2 Development have cut the ribbon on eight affordable single-family townhomes in Ward 8โs Anacostia neighborhood. The Douglass: A Todd A. Lee Townhome Community consists of eight modern, affordable homes which were developed under DCHFAโs HIP program. HIP partners with local, emerging developers to create homes priced for workforce incomes, residents earning between 60-120 percent of the area median income (AMI).ย
Gov. Pritzker Announces $443 Million in Emergency Rental Assistance Disbursed, More Than 90 Percent of Stateโs Initial Relief Allocation
Governor JB Pritzker and the IHDA today announced that more than $443 million in emergency rental assistance has been paid on behalf of 49,100 households through the ILRPP. With 90 percent of the more than $500 million in available ILRPP funds paid to households in need, Illinois continues to be one of the highest providers of rental assistance in the country in terms of households assisted and dollars disbursed.
More Than 36,000 Michigan Renter Households Helped Through CERA Program
The state has surpassed the 65% obligation threshold set by the U.S. Department of the Treasury for $622 million in rental relief sent to Michigan from the coronavirus aid package passed in December 2020. The Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) estimates $425 million has been spent or obligated by the September 30 deadline through its COVID Emergency Rental Assistance (CERA) program.
Idaho Housing and Finance Looks to the Future With eNotes
Technology has changed the way people buy homes and Idaho Housing and Finance is helping lead the way with the introduction of its eNote program. eNote technology allows Idaho Housing to securely accept, purchase and deliver electronic mortgage notes through the Mortgage Electronic Registration System. MERS says use of eNotes grew 261% in 2020.

The Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development today announced the Emergency Rental Assistance Program has approved $135 million to assist 15,000 renters affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Early projections show a continued positive trend with an estimated more than $50 million in assistance to be paid out in September.
