Maryland Celebrates the 100th Affordable Housing Community Financed by Rental Housing Works Program

Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development Secretary Kenneth C. Holt joined leadership and members of the Maryland Affordable Housing Coalition at their annual meeting to celebrate the 100th affordable housing community financed through the State of Marylandā€™s Rental Housing Works program. Secretary Holt presented the coalition with a proclamation from Governor Larry Hogan marking the milestone.

Governor Wolf Announces Funding for Affordable Rental Housing

Governor Tom Wolf today announced awards totaling more than $43.6 million in Low Income Housing Tax Credits, more than $7.4 million in PennHOMES funding, and more than $15.9 million in National Housing Trust Funds for the construction of 1,974 affordable multifamily rental units in Pennsylvania. The federal tax credits are administered by the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency and were approved by its board.

DCHFA Funds First Development of Fiscal Year 2022

DCHFA has financed its first development of Fiscal Year 2022, SOME (So Others Might Eat) North Capitol. On October 6, 2021 the Agency issued $33.2 million in tax exempt bonds and underwrote $20.2 million in Low Income Housing Tax Credits for the construction of this new 136-unit affordable housing complex in Ward 5ā€™s NoMa neighborhood.Ā  ā€œWe are enthused to begin what is poised to be a very active Fiscal Year 2022 by funding affordable apartments in one of the cityā€™s most sought after neighborhoods for market rate units, by developers as well as renters,ā€ stated Christopher E. Donald, Executive Director/CEO, DCHFA.

Governor Hogan Announces Housing Vouchers for Homeless Veterans in Cecil County

Governor Larry Hogan today announced that HELP Veterans Village Phase II will receive 50 Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing vouchers from the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development.Ā  ā€œMarylanders who have proudly served our nation deserve the very best in care, and, for more than three years, HELP Veterans Village has provided that for our vulnerable veterans,ā€ said Governor Hogan. ā€œThese vouchers will ensure further continuation of the Villageā€™s high level of services and its important role in ending veteran homelessness in Maryland.ā€

MassHousing Closes on $4.4 Million in Financing for the Development of the 59-Unit 37 Union Street in Downtown Attleboro for Residents Across a Range of Incomes

MassHousing has closed on $4.4 million in affordable and workforce housing financing for the redevelopment of a vacant, historic jewelry factory in downtown Attleboro into the 59-unit 37 Union Street for residents with a range of incomes.Ā The project was spearheaded by a long-time business owner in downtown Attleboro, Bob Jones. The development team of GAM Realty, LLC, E3 Development, LLC, and Affirmative Investments, Inc., will redevelop three existing brick structures that formerly housed jewelry manufacturers into a 59-unit rental housing community, including 17 workforce housing apartments.

Housing Crisis Averted for Hammond Area Renters

Between approximately September 23-29, 2021, roughly 161 households located in Hammond, LA, received a Notice of Termination of Lease from Rich Smith Development, LLC, a management company and agent for Ridge Estates at Hammond, Villas of Hammond, and Terrace of Hammond I & II.

DCHFA Closes Out Fiscal Year 2021 By Financing Affordable Housing in Wards 6 and 8

The District of Columbia Housing Finance Agency (DCHFA) has closed out Fiscal Year 2021 by issuing more than $53 million in tax exempt bonds for the construction of 182 affordable apartment homes. DCHFA has financed two new construction projects, MDXL Flats and The Clara in Wards 6 and 8, respectively.

RentReliefRI Surpasses $50 Million in Rental and Utility Assistance to Rhode Island Renters

RIHousing announced today that the RentReliefRI program has approved over $50 million in rental and utility assistance funds to almost 4,600 renter households. The federally-funded program serves as a lifeline for struggling Rhode Island renters and provides up to 18 months of rental and utility assistance for tenants impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Maryland Wins National Award for Cecilton Senior Village Project

The departmentā€™s entry ā€œPartnerships for Responsive Revitalizationā€ featured a six-year undertaking known as the ā€œCecilton Senior Villageā€ project.

Tax Credits Will Provide Financing for More Than 786 Units of Affordable Housing, Fund Loan Program

The Connecticut Housing Finance Authority has awarded $10.9 million from the State Housing Tax Credit Contribution (HTCC) program to non-profit developers of affordable housing and non-profit housing loan programs in Connecticut (a list of recipients is included below).Ā  The recipients offer the tax credits to business firms in exchange for cash contributions toward their affordable housing developments or loan funds.
