Funding Available Through the CARES Act for Nonprofits and Units of Local Government to Provide Emergency Shelter and Homelessness Prevention
Per the CARES Act, South Dakota has initially received an allocation of $2,199,893 of special ESG program funds to be used to prevent, prepare for, and respond to the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) among individuals and families who are homeless or receiving homeless assistance; and to support additional homeless assistance and homelessness prevention activities to mitigate the impacts of COVID-19.

Florida Housing Finance Corporation Successfully Offers Assistance to Homeless Schoolchildren in Santa Rosa County
Florida Housing Finance Corporation (Florida Housing) has recently released its findings from a pilot program conducted in Santa Rosa County looking at the significant need for affordable, permanent housing options for homeless families with school-aged children. The state of Florida currently has more than 96,208 homeless schoolchildren, and in many cases, a lack of stable housing prevents these children from attending school on a consistent basis.
VHFA Awards Federal Tax Credits for Future Construction of Affordable Apartments Statewide
The Vermont Housing Finance Agency (VHFA) Board of Commissioners announced yesterday that its annual allocation of federal housing tax credits will support the development of 130 permanently affordable apartments in five communities across the state. โDespite the unique circumstances caused by the coronavirus outbreak, it was very important for VHFA to move ahead with the tax credit allocation,โ remarked VHFA Executive Director Maura Collins.

VHFA Grants $120,000 to Help Meet Immediate Housing Needs Arising From Coronavirus Pandemic
In response to the Coronavirus pandemic, Vermont Housing Finance Agency (VHFA) announced today the award of $100,000 in grants to the stateโs nonprofit housing providers and public housing agencies. Another $20,000 will be donated to Vermont-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations selected by VHFAโs 38 staff members.

NDHFA is encouraging households facing financial difficulties because of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) to notify their mortgage loan servicer or landlord if they are unable to make their mortgage or rent payment. โOur loan servicing department has fielded multiple calls and emails from individuals and families who are facing financial difficulties because of virus-related shutdowns,โ said Dave Flohr, NDHFA interim executive director. โWe want our borrowers to keep calling us. Governor Murphy Announces Effort to Help Renters, Homeowners Threatened by Potential Foreclosure
Governor Phil Murphy today announced an expanded housing counseling initiative to help New Jersey renters and homeowners who are threatened with a loss of housing due to the COVID-19 crisis. At the direction of Governor Murphy, the New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agencyโs (NJHMFA) housing counseling initiative is expanding to include renters, who may be concerned with eviction, and homeowners who may need counseling to help prevent possible foreclosure.ย These services are available at no cost to the consumer.
