Bill Promoting Affordable Housing Passed by Legislature

The South Carolina Legislature has passed House Bill 3998, the Workforce and Senior Affordable Housing Act, creating a state tax credit for qualified affordable housing developments. This tax credit is similar to, and would supplement awards under, the federal Low Income Housing Tax Credit. The bill was signed by Governor McMaster on May 14, 2020.

WHEDA Issues $100 Million in Single Family Bonding

The Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority (WHEDA) is advancing its ability to provide first-time home buyer mortgages through issuance of a $100 million Home Ownership Revenue Bond. With mortgage rates near historic lows, qualified low- to moderate-income first-time home buyers may find the timing right to purchase a home with an affordable WHEDA mortgage.

Governor Ron DeSantis and Florida Housing Provide Local Governments $5 Million in Housing Assistance for Families Impacted by COVID-19

Today, Governor Ron DeSantis along with the Florida Housing Finance Corporation (Florida Housing) announced the distribution of $5 million to local governments through the State Housing Initiatives Partnership (SHIP) program to assist individuals and families in Florida impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic with the housing assistance and resources.

FHLBank Pittsburgh and PHFA Speed Allocation of Home4Good Funding to Provide Rapid Assistance to Homeless during Pandemic

FHLBank Pittsburgh and the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency (PHFA) announced today they will begin quickly disbursing 2020 Home4Good funding in order to provide the fastest support possible for individuals facing homelessness who are struggling during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. As they have for the past two years, FHLBank Pittsburgh is providing $3 million toward the effort and PHFA is providing $1.5 million, for a total contribution of $4.5 million.

MassHousing Announces Capital One as Multifamily Accelerated Processing (MAP) Lending Partner for Rental Housing Communities

MassHousing announced today that Capital One will partner with the Agency in its Multifamily Accelerated Processing (MAP) lending program, which allows for an expedited process for the owners of rental housing communities to refinance, renovate and preserve their properties, while extending affordability protections for thousands of low-income individuals, families and senior citizens. 

SDHDA Seeking Applicants for the 2020 Emergency Solutions Grants Program

South Dakota Housing Development Authority (SDHDA) is seeking applicants for the Emergency Solutions Grants Program. The Emergency Solutions Grants Program (ESG) is a federal block grant authorized by the McKinney Vento Homelessness Assistance Act and is funded by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Affordability Extended for Lower-Income Senior Citizens at Methuen Housing Community as a Result of $7.9 Million in MassHousing Financing 

MassHousing has provided $7.9 million in affordable housing financing to the non-profit Community Teamwork, Inc. (CTI) to preserve affordability for lower-income senior citizens at the 60-unit Merrimack Valley Apartments in Methuen and extend affordability at the community for at least 23 years. “MassHousing was pleased to complete the refinancing of this important affordable housing resource for senior citizens in Methuen,” said MassHousing Executive Director Chrystal Kornegay. 

DCHFA Closes out April by Funding Senior Affordable Housing in Petworth

The DCHFA closed out the month of April with a second deal closure within a week. On April 29 DCHFA issued $7.1million in tax exempt bonds and underwrote $3.7 million in four percent LIHTC equity for the acquisition and rehabilitation of Spring Flats Senior in the Ward 4 neighborhood of Petworth. “Affordable housing for the District’s senior residents is critical to allow them to age in place in the city that they have called home for decades. The rehabilitation of Spring Flats Senior in Petworth will give the residents access to an amenity rich neighborhood,” stated Christopher E. Donald.

Florida Housing Unveils Redesigned Affordable Rental Housing Locator

Today, the Florida Housing Finance Corporation (Florida Housing) unveils the redesign of the statewide online affordable rental housing locator called FloridaHousingSearch.org . The locator is part of Florida Housing’s ongoing effort to respond to affordable rental housing needs in general as well as during natural disasters.

MassHousing Closes on $2.8 Million in Financing for New Workforce Housing in Northampton

MassHousing has closed on $2.8 million in affordable workforce housing financing to The Community Builders for the ongoing construction of the 12-unit 35 Village Hill Road in Northampton. Valley Community Development Corporation is the project co-sponsor. The new housing, which is being developed on the site of the former Northampton State Hospital, will feature 10 workforce housing apartments for moderate-income households and two deeply affordable units for clients of the DMH.
