Statement on HUD Secretary Marcia L. Fudge’s Retirement and Resignation

WASHINGTON, DC — The National Council of State Housing Agencies commends Marcia L. Fudge for her highly successful tenure as Secretary of Housing and Urban Development and wishes her the best in her future endeavors. Under Secretary Fudge’s leadership, the Department of Housing and Urban Development has worked closely with the nation’s state housing finance agencies to:

• Provide mortgage relief to economically vulnerable homeowners through the Federal Housing Administration;
• Serve the nation’s neediest renters with direct assistance and ensure the safety and performance of thousands of HUD-assisted apartment properties;
• Build and rehabilitate tens of thousands of new for-sale and rental homes through the HOME block grant and FHA multifamily insurance programs; and
• Launch new programs, including HOME-ARP and Emergency Housing Vouchers, to address the crisis of homelessness.

Most recently, Secretary Fudge was instrumental in extending the FHA – Federal Financing Bank Risk-Sharing Program, through which HFAs will create and preserve thousands of affordable apartments where they are needed most.

In all our work together, Secretary Fudge has been a passionate, energetic advocate for the people and communities that count on federal housing assistance. We look forward to continuing to work with Deputy Secretary Adrianne Todman, who was the opening plenary speaker at NCSHA’s Legislative Conference last week, when she becomes HUD’s Acting Secretary later this month.
