NCSHA Statement on the Selection of Tom Vilsack as Agriculture Secretary

WASHINGTON, DC — The National Council of State Housing Agencies commends President-Elect Biden on his selection of Tom Vilsack for Secretary of Agriculture and extends our congratulations to Mr. Vilsack on this great honor.

An experienced and capable leader, former Secretary Vilsack has proven his ability to lead the Agriculture Department. He also worked on housing issues with the Iowa Finance Authority as Governor of Iowa.

Mr. Vilsack will face significant challenges in preserving USDA-financed affordable rental housing and addressing other rural housing issues. NCSHA and our member state Housing Finance Agencies stand ready to work with him and his team on those issues, and we urge the Senate to confirm his nomination quickly.
