NCSHA Statement on the Selection of Rep. Marcia Fudge as HUD Secretary

Published on December 10, 2020

WASHINGTON, DC — The National Council of State Housing Agencies commends President-Elect Biden on his selection of Representative Marcia Fudge for Secretary of Housing and Urban Development and extends our congratulations to her on this great honor and significant responsibility.

Representative Fudge has a strong record and demonstrated interest in and commitment to affordable housing. She has led an annual sign-on letter, bringing her colleagues together to ask appropriators for increased funding for the HOME Investment Partnerships program, an important source of formula grant funds for state and local agencies to produce affordable housing. She also has cosponsored important housing legislation including the Affordable Housing Credit Improvement Act.

An advocate for equality of opportunity, the congresswoman will be the first woman in more than 40 years, and the second Black woman in history, to lead the Department of Housing and Urban Development. NCSHA urges the Senate to confirm Representative Fudge’s historic nomination quickly. We and our member state Housing Finance Agencies stand ready to work with her to address the serious affordable housing challenges our nation faces today.
