NCSHA Commends Nomination of Matt Jones as Federal Housing Administration Commissioner

WASHINGTON, DC — The National Council of State Housing Agencies strongly supports President Trump’s nomination of Matt Jones to serve as Assistant Secretary for Housing and Commissioner of the Federal Housing Administration. “Matt Jones has the deep policy expertise and mortgage industry experience required to lead FHA at this critical time for the agency and the U.S. housing market,” said NCSHA Executive Director Stockton Williams. “We have worked closely with Matt in his prior roles and look forward to continuing with him in his new one, which we urge the Senate to approve as soon as possible.”

NCSHA’s state housing finance agency members, which provide more than $55 billion in financing that serves more than 300,000 households every year, interact extensively with FHA’s single-family and multifamily insurance programs. More than half of all HFA single-family loans originated in 2025 were insured by FHA, helping nearly 79,000 households purchase a home. From 2016 through 2025, HFA risk-sharing with FHA financed nearly 800 affordable multifamily projects with more than 90,000 apartments.
