State Housing Board Approves $10 Million for Developments in New Orleans

Funding aims to improve affordable housing in areas impacted by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita

BATON ROUGE, LA – The Louisiana Housing Corporation (LHC) Board of Directors awarded more than $10 million for the construction and rehabilitation of four privately-owned affordable housing developments. The developments will benefit 305 households, comprised of working families, veterans and seniors in New Orleans.

In partnership with the Office of Community Development (OCD), LHC will award Community Development Block Grant Disaster Funds (CDBG-DR), designated for parishes impacted by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The developments selected to receive the funds are:

ā€All of our efforts will continue in the vein of supporting projects that best meet the housing needs of the community,ā€ said LHC Executive Director Keith Cunningham, Jr. ā€œBy aligning with communities and partners such as OCD that put housing first, we continue to reinvest and recycle dollars made available by the federal government to support projects in areas impacted by disaster. These developments represent another step towards that effort.ā€

The Board also approved the release the 2018 Winter Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA), totaling $4 million in HOME Investment Partnership Program funds to promote the development of affordable single-family homes and rental properties. The NOFA and corresponding application will be posted to the LHC website on February 15. Potential applicants are required to attend the orientation workshop on February 28 at 10:00 AM.
