Sen. Rachel Zenzinger Appointed to CHFA’s Board of Directors

(DENVER) – Colorado Housing and Finance Authority (CHFA) is pleased to announce that Sen. Rachel Zenzinger has been appointed to serve on its board of directors. CHFA’s 11-member board serves as the governing body of the organization and establishes policies to further its mission of affordable housing and community development.

Sen. Zenzinger represents Senate District 19 in Jefferson County. She is a leading voice in the Colorado General Assembly for increased funding to advance the state’s diverse housing needs. In 2019, she received a Housing Champion award for her work as co-sponsor of HB19-1228, which increased the amount of state Housing Credits available to support the development and preservation of affordable rental housing from $5 million to $10 million for 2020 through 2024.

Sen. Zenzinger grew up on the Western Slope and came to the Front Range to attend college at Regis University. She received both a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts degree in education, as well as her teaching license.

She has a deep background in education and a strong passion for public schools. She has worked as the state director for the Colorado Educator Voice Fellowship, a branch of America Achieves. She previously served as advisor to the Colorado Opportunity Scholarship Initiative program in the Colorado Department of Higher Education and worked for Regis University in the Master of Arts in Education department.

Since moving to Arvada in 2002, Sen. Zenzinger has served the community in a variety of capacities, including as twice-elected member of the Arvada City Council, where she also filled the role as mayor pro tem and served on the DRCOG Board, Urban Drainage and Flood Control District Board, and Transit Alliance Board of Directors. She left the City Council to accept an appointment to the State Senate, where she served in the 2014 session. Upon her election in 2016, Rachel returned to the State Senate, where she served on a variety of committees including the Joint Budget Committee and as Chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee. Sen. Zenzinger was appointed chair of the Senate Education Committee following her successful re-election to the State Senate in 2020. In addition, she is the vice chair of the Statutory Revision Committee, and a member of the Senate Transportation and Energy Committee.
