Applicants Sought for Inaugural Michael Van Leesten Awards Program
RIHousing is seeking applicants for the agencyโs Michael Van Leesten Memorial Awards program, a new awards program that provides financial assistance to students pursuing a career in the construction trades or a degree in housing development. The awards program honors the life and work of Michael Van Leesten, a longtime advocate dedicated to improving the lives of Rhode Islanders through his business leadership, civil rights activism, and public service.
Cris White Receives Most Admired CEO Award from Denver Business Journal
Colorado Housing and Finance Authority (CHFA) is pleased to announce its Executive Director and CEO, Cris White, has received a Most Admired CEO Award from the Denver Business Journal (DBJ). White was selected as a 2020 recipient from a pool of more than 100 nominees. DBJโs Most Admired CEO Award honors outstanding chief executives (and those holding equivalent titles) in the Denver metropolitan area at for-profit and nonprofit companies that are innovators, standard-bearers, role models, and exceptional leaders.
PHFA Provides September Data About CARES Relief to Renters and Homeowners
After three months of administering CARES financial assistance for renters and homeowners, the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency is providing an update on the progress of both programs, which have been accepting applications since July 6. For the CARES Rent Relief Program (RRP), all 67 participating county organizations are asked to provide monthly data summaries, and the data from September are now available.

MassHousing Closes $29 Million in Financing for the Refinancing and Preservation of Town Brook House in Quincy
MassHousing has closed on approximately $29 million in affordable housing financing to the non-profit Wollaston Lutheran Housing, Inc., for the refinancing and extension of affordability for at least 20 years for lower-income senior citizens and residents with disabilities at the 151-unit Town Brook House in Quincy. MassHousing is providing Wollaston Lutheran Housing, Inc. โ a non-profit corporation sponsored by Wollaston Lutheran Church โ with $28.994 million in permanent financing.
Lower Mortgage Rates for Idahoโs Essential Workers
Weโve seen what an important role essential workers in Idaho have played during the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, Idaho Housing and Finance Association is saying thank you by helping them save money with the Idaho Heroes Loan Program. The program provides a special reduced mortgage rate available only to essential workers to help them buy a home. The limited special rate of 2.375% is available to nurses, firefighters, law enforcement, teachers, doctors, paramedics, retail workers, and current and former members of the military who meet the First Loan program requirements.
DCHFA Finances First Development of FY 2021 in Ward 8
The new fiscal year has begun and the District of Columbia Housing Finance Agencyย (DCHFA) has closed its first deal of FY 2021, by funding the redevelopment of Savannah Apartments.ย On October 9, DCHFA issued $11.5 million in tax-exempt bond financing and underwrote $7.2 million in four percent low income housing tax credit (LIHTC) to rehabilitate the 65 apartments at the Ward 8 community. โWeโre beginning the new fiscal year by preserving existing affordable housing,โ stated Christopher E. Donald, Interim Executive Director, DCHFA.
Significant Revision Made To CARES Relief Programs To Boost Participation
The Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency has modified its original interpretation of the statutory meaning of a provision in Act 24 of 2020 in response to discussions seeking broader participation in the renter and homeowner assistance programs.ย During implementation of the Governorโs Executive Order extending the original Sept. 30 deadline to Nov. 4, there was also discussion regarding broadening program participation based on legislative intent expressed by the legislature that supported the effort for broader program participation by lenders and landlords.ย
MassHousing Celebrates 20-Year Partnership with HUD to Administer Nearly 600 Housing Subsidy Contracts Involving 52,540 Rental Homes in Massachusetts
MassHousingย is celebrating its 20-year partnership with theย U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Developmentย (HUD)ย as the administrator forย nearly 600 federal Section 8 housing subsidy contractsย in Massachusetts. The Section 8 program allows private landlords to rent apartments to qualified low-income tenants at market rents, with a rental subsidy from HUD.ย MassHousingย is the administrator for 590 Section 8 contracts involving 52,540 rental units in Massachusetts under HUDโs Performance Based Contract Administration (PBCA) program.
