Louisiana Housing Corporation Recognizes August as LIHEAP Action Month

August 2024—The Louisiana Housing Corporation (LHC) proudly announces its recognition of August as Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) Action Month, dedicated to raising awareness about LIHEAP and its vital role in supporting Louisiana’s most vulnerable residents.

LIHEAP is a federal program designed to assist low-income households with their home energy bills, helping to ensure that every resident has access to essential heating and cooling services. During August, the LHC will focus on highlighting the benefits of LIHEAP, sharing resources, and encouraging eligible residents to apply for assistance.

“LHC is excited to promote efforts of LIHEAP during the month of August with other national housing agencies. A part of LHC’s mission is to provide support for low-income individuals and families. LIHEAP provides that extra assistance when it comes to household energy bills,” said LHC Executive Director Marjorianna Willman. “Louisiana’s summer heat is at its peak; many residents face increased energy costs.”

As part of our recognition for LIHEAP Action Month, LHC had the opportunity to showcase one woman’s journey going through the LIHEAP Program and how it helped her keep her home utilities running while battling breast cancer.

LHC encourages eligible Louisiana residents to visit LHC’s LIHEAP web page for more information on the application process.

LHC remains dedicated to improving housing stability and ensuring that all Louisiana residents have access to safe, affordable, and energy-efficient housing. By recognizing August as LIHEAP Action Month, the LHC reaffirms its commitment to this important cause.

ABOUT LHC

The purpose of the LHC is to substantially increase the availability of affordable, accessible, and safe residential housing in Louisiana. The LHC was created in 2011 when the Louisiana Legislature merged the Louisiana Housing Finance Agency with housing programs from other state agencies to streamline how the state would address its housing needs, avoid duplication of efforts, and improve service to the general public. The LHC administers federal and state funds through programs designed to advance the development of energy-efficient and affordable housing for low- and moderate-income families, drives housing policy for Louisiana, and oversees the state’s Disaster Housing Task Force.
