LHC Housing Counseling Programs Awarded More Than $400,000 in Grants from HUD

“Awards provide HUD-approved housing counseling agencies and intermediaries with funding to maintain and expand critical services for the nation’s renters, homebuyers, and homeowners.”
HUD awarded over $51 Million in grants in late January to support housing counseling programs across the nation, including counseling agencies partnering with Historically Black College and Universities (HBCUs), Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs), or other Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs). The slated funding will provide an estimated $434,984.00 to assist Louisiana citizens to achieve the dream of homeownership.
According to the official press release, “The funding supports housing counseling agencies in their critical work to stem the tide of the COVID-19 pandemic’s impact on housing, maintain housing stability by helping families with foreclosure and rental eviction prevention, and help families make more informed housing choices. The awards also include funding for further training and education to attract and retain more housing counseling professionals.”
“Many of our mortgage programs require homebuyers to take part in housing counseling when preparing to purchase a home. This funding will help the LHC to ensure that more potential homebuyers have the opportunity to obtain safe, affordable, energy-efficient new or existing homes,” said LHC Interim-Executive Director, Bradley R. Sweazy.
“The value of homeownership is paramount to the LHC,” stated Brenda Evans, Chief Programs Officer. “We strive to prepare potential homebuyers to make the most from their investment. Housing counseling is an important step in ensuring homebuyers understand the rights, privileges, and responsibilities of homeownership.”
