Iowa Finance Authority Celebrates Record Number of Home Buyers Assisted, Goes for Guinness World Record

Public Encouraged to Attend Free Gingerbread House Decorating Record Attempt at Des Moines Downtown Winter Farmers’ Market Saturday, Dec. 14

DES MOINES, IA – The Iowa Finance Authority (IFA) helped 3,337 Iowans purchase a home in 2019, the most in the agencies’ history. To celebrate the community benefits of homeownership, IFA invites the public to help them break the Guinness World Record for the most people decorating gingerbread houses simultaneously. The event will be held in partnership with the Des Moines Downtown Winter Farmers’ Market at Hy-Vee Hall on Saturday, Dec. 14 at 9:30 a.m.

“I contribute IFA’s record year to the streamlining of our processes, the addition of programs to assist home buyers and most importantly, our expert lender and Realtor partners who assist home buyers through our programs,” said Iowa Finance Authority Executive Director Debi Durham. “I encourage Iowans to help us celebrate homeownership and break a World Record!”

Home buyers can apply for IFA’s mortgage and down payment assistance programs by contacting one of more than 400 participating lenders throughout the state. Full program details and a listing of lenders offering the programs are available at IowaFinanceAuthority.gov.

The Iowa Finance Authority has assisted nearly 55,000 homeowners realize their dream of homeownership to date.
