Florida Housing’s Board Approves Using Resources for Hurricane Recovery

TALLAHASSEE, FL — This morning the Florida Housing Finance Corporation (Florida Housing) Board took action to direct available state and federal resources to assist the areas impacted by the recent hurricanes. The directive, led by Chairman Barney Smith of Jacksonville, will allow available multifamily resources, as permitted by law, to target impacted areas, with a priority to fund developments in the Florida Keys. The Board unanimously approved the motion.

Florida Housing staff will work in the coming weeks towards evaluating the resources that could be available in response to the directive and to the Corporation’s mission, while awaiting FEMA damage assessment data. Recent applications, which include developments proposed in the Florida Keys, will be assessed to determine how many could be funded.

”Florida Housing’s role in times of disaster is to provide long-term housing solutions to the state,” said Trey Price, executive director for Florida Housing. ”Today, the Board expressed their commitment to those impacted by the storm and, as always, we are glad to be a part of the solution.”

The motion is timely to the Legislative discussion in Tallahassee this week surrounding the impact to housing in the state from the recent storms. In addition, Florida Housing’s Executive Director and senior staff will be traveling to Monroe County next week to meet with state and local officials to assess damage and housing conditions there.
