Chairman Peter Anastos Steps Down; Lincoln Merrill, Jr. Appointed as Chair
Board Chairman Peter Anastos announced his retirement at the Board of Commissioners’ February 20 meeting.
Mr. Anastos, who was appointed to be chairman by Governor Paul LePage in 2011, reflected on the mission-focused work the Board and MaineHousing staff has accomplished during his tenure, and noted the leadership of former Director John Gallagher for keeping everyone’s attention on efforts to provide quality, affordable housing that meets the needs of Maine’s people.
“The dedication, professionalism, and the hard work being done by MaineHousing ¬ … and the commitment towards what you do is outstanding,” Mr. Anastos said about MaineHousing’s employees.
Interim Director Peter Merrill thanked Mr. Anastos on the agency’s behalf, saying “we appreciate the guidance you have given us.”
In addition to serving as Board Chairman, Mr. Anastos worked with the agency’s Development Department and partners to review and address building development costs. In 2013, he received the Elizabeth H. Mitchell Leadership Award from the Maine Affordable Housing Coalition (MAHC) during the 2013 Maine Affordable Housing Conference, sponsored by MaineHousing and MAHC.
Lincoln J. Merrill, Jr., of North Yarmouth, was appointed chairman by Governor LePage. He has been a member of MaineHousing’s Board since 2011 and has served as its vice chair and secretary.
Mr. Lincoln Merrill is president and chief executive officer of Patriot Insurance Co. He served on many insurance-related trade boards as well as community organizations.
