CalHFA’s Tia Boatman Patterson Elected NCSHA Board Chair for Second Term
SACRAMENTO, October 31, 2019 — Following her successful first year as Chair of the Board of Directors of the National Council of State Housing Agencies (NCSHA), California Housing Finance Agency (CalHFA) Executive Director Tia Boatman Patterson was reelected to the Board leadership role at the organization’s Annual Conference last week.
“I am pleased that my colleagues believe in the direction NCSHA is going and support my work to help guide the organization,” Boatman Patterson said. “We are strongest and most influential when we work together, and I’m excited to continue to maximize the influence of state HFAs in the national conversation about housing.”
Boatman Patterson has been an active participant in NCSHA since she was appointed to lead CalHFA in 2014. The following year, she was selected as an At-Large member of NCSHA Board’s Executive Committee. After two consecutive two-year Board terms, she was elected Board Chair in 2018.
Boatman Patterson, who was selected by California Governor Gavin Newsom to be his Senior Housing Advisor earlier this year, has gained knowledge of the affordable housing landscape from a variety of perspectives during her long career, which has included working as a housing consultant in the California State Legislature, General Counsel for the Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency and as an affordable housing lawyer in the private sector.
In her first year as Board Chair, Boatman Patterson pushed for increased collaboration and communication between the HFAs and was a key part of the organization’s vital federal partnerships.
“Now more than ever, with housing being discussed at the very highest level of the U.S. government, policymakers need to hear and understand the HFA story,” Boatman Patterson said. “We will continue to impress upon them that NCSHA is at the forefront of innovative thinking in the field of affordable housing and remains a valuable resource for federal, local and private partners.”
In addition to Boatman Patterson, the other newly elected NCSHA Board officers are Vice President Scott Spivey (Mississippi Home Corporation), Secretary/Treasurer Margaret Salazar (Oregon Housing and Community Services) and At-Large Member Anas Ben Addi (Delaware State Housing Authority).
