$25 Million Available for Hurricane Housing Recovery Program

Funds now available to homeowners in Hurricane Idalia impacted counties

[Tallahassee, FL] – Following the recent Special Session of the Legislature, Governor DeSantis signed a disaster recovery bill allocating $25 million to the Florida Housing Finance Corporation to assist families in counties impacted by Hurricane Idalia through the Hurricane Housing Recovery Program (HHRP). These funds are now available for impacted homeowners to help with home repairs, replacement of homes, construction materials and assistance for those looking for housing. To learn more about how to access these funds, click here.

Hurricane Idalia made landfall on August 30 in North Florida, leaving many families throughout the region still recovering from damage. Funds appropriated to the HHRP will go towards helping families with hurricane recovery purposes that include, but are not limited to, repair and replacement of housing; acquisition of building materials for home repair and construction; payment of insurance deductibles for storm-related damages; and housing reentry assistance such as security deposits, utility deposits, and temporary storage of household items.

Counties eligible for assistance will be identified using FEMA damage assessment data. HHRP funds were distributed to each county’s local government SHIP office on Thursday, November 30, 2023.

If your family’s home was damaged due to Hurricane Idalia, Florida Housing encourages you to visit our website here, as well as your local SHIP office, for more information on how you can receive this assistance. Florida Housing will coordinate with the Division of Emergency Management and the Department of Commerce to ensure there is no duplication of benefits for individuals who may have already received state or federal housing assistance.
