Trussville Girl Awarded in AHFA Statewide Art Contest Celebrating National Homeownership Month

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Avery Flowers, 11, of Trussville has been named a winner in the Alabama Housing Finance Authority’s fourth annual National Homeownership Month art contest.

This year’s theme was “Sunshine and Smiles in Alabama Style.” Children ages 5–12 who live in Alabama were invited to showcase what makes the state a bright and happy place to call home. Avery’s detailed entry earned her the Second Place award for highlighting the state’s harmony between urban and rural areas.

“I think that what makes Alabama special is that it is smiley and sunny. Alabama is the balance of nature and the city,” said Avery.

AHFA Executive Director Robert Strickland congratulated this year’s contest winners.

“For four years in a row, we have asked Alabama’s youngest artists to display their creativity during National Homeownership Month,” said Strickland. “Every June they continue to inspire us with their imaginative illustrations of the importance of home, family, and community.”
